Next gen Viper to have 700hp and still be emissions legal?
American supercar engine will hide under the hood an engine able to offer 700 HP.

After reaching in the garages of 25,000 customers worldwide, from 1992 to present, Dodge Viper supercar, an iconic model for the American automaker, has said this year goodbye to his fans. Not for long however, because the American automaker intends to launch a new generation with Italian partner Fiat.

The first sign of cooperation between the two parties could come just over two years, when in a major auto show overseas, Dodge will display concept which anticipates the next generation Viper.

*note... this is not the next gen viper in the pic below*

The irony of that photoshop is that is that edmunds just did an article and supposedly the new Viper looks alot like an Alfa 8c with a Viper front end. The 8c is a gorgeous car but at the same time in my opinion the VIper shouldnt be a sleek curvy American Ferrari it should be what is now a brutish, powerful car with immense presence...I guess we will find out

How could that be even possibly emissions-legal? 700hp?!

I think the one thing that there are two things holding them back from getting 100hp/liter. The first is fuel economy. The gen 4 vipers could get 22mpg, what other 600hp car out there gets 22mpg? Also, 840cc pistons... very few vehicles have combustion chambers that large. The large combustion chambers allow for more efficient longer strokes, but in turn are limited in upper rpm range do to flame path speeds. You would have to use forced induction to get the power up that high (or more cylinders/higher rpms).

Looks like the power wars may not be over. But looks like we are going in 2 different directions. Cars like the Viper with massive power and cars like the upcoming Nissan Leaf that goes in the other direction. Should be interesting to see if it becomes a reality.

I hope the new motor is a 10 cylinder version of the HEMI V8 from the SRT models, that would be a beast of a motor
