PARIS MOTOR SHOW: BMW Sounds The Death-knell Of Rear DVD Screens With First OEM iPad Seat Cradles

PARIS MOTOR SHOW: BMW Sounds The Death-knell Of Rear DVD Screens With First OEM iPad Seat Cradles
We told it FIRST it was only a matter of time.

No matter WHAT the manufacturers do, in the end, in car telematics will ALL be OWNED by Apple and the myriad of mobile devices coming from the 'Cupertino Cult'.

Don't believe it?

Well answer this question and then you will.

What would you rather have?

A bill for $2000+ of your hard earned dollars for crappy in headrest screens that are only capable of playing DVD's or to use some obsolete game consoles and a separate crippled net bill every month from a car company...or would you rather have a super clean in car interface/connection that allows you to plug in your iphone/ipad and future devices and have FULL access to everything and app they offer?

Do i have to even answer the question for you?

Well, good news!

Today, BMW is indirectly sounding the death-knell of those obsolete systems with the first oem seat cradles for your iPad.

That's one small step for man, one giant leap for upcoming magical in car experiences.

Believe us when we tell you it's only the beginning if the most exciting time in the history of in car telematics.

And once again, BMW is first to the party.

They GET it.

Great job!

And once again, you've seen it FIRST at the number one site in the world for auto shows...AutoSpies.com

As much as I don't like the iPad, I think I'd prefer this over what is usually there. Hopefully, a new version could also be placed there for those who are waiting for the webcam. I'd pay for this option if there isn't some weird charge and warranty for it.

It would be nice if Apple would let us play movies from the in-car entertainment system and display them on the iPads, but the chances of that happening is... NEVER. :(

Not really. I pad doesn't play dvd's and iPads are very expensive. Crooks know that iPads are not staionary and portable. Windows will be busted and iPads will disappear. BMW is wrong on this one.

oo1...as usual, I think you drank the kool aid. Just because BMW did it doesn't make it great. BMW created iDrive and we all know how spectacular that is. What generation are they on now? They just came out with a 6 cylinder that outperforms their own 8 cylinder. They created the butt ugly x3 too.

It is nice that BMW wants to offer this as a option. This is, however, no replacement for a simple DVD player with some aux inputs. Using a iPad in this way isn't simple, far from economical and the percentage of people who own there is rather small (even though they are selling the heck out of them). I am a Mac lover and can see this.

it needs a wireless connection to do internet/facebook so you can't do that in a car. Have you seen the games available for it? lol. And movies... ya... you have to buy itunes movies as you say... which are good for your mac/ipad/ipod, not so good is having to burn your own disks to watch them on a proper media center.

apparently it is magic though :P

PatrickBateman. lol you're arguing to defend the ipad. It's useless, you can't run multiple programs at once, 99% of the games available for it equivalent to online flash games, only online flash games are free, and ipad ones you have to pay for (which is why the ipad doesn't allow flash) lol! It's not a good music player since you can't put it in your pocket, it's not good at displaying pictures since it has pretty low resolution, it's not good at running internet programs with it's jumbo size onscreen keyboard that lacks tactile feel. It's a joke!

what would be better is if the iPad replaced the iDrive crap in BMWs...I would then be impressed!
