Honda Overhauls Strategy To Better Combat Hyundai

Honda Overhauls Strategy To Better Combat Hyundai
Honda Motor Co will overhaul its sourcing strategy by ditching its one-spec-fits-all method on global car models to better compete with Hyundai Motor and others in emerging markets, an executive said on Tuesday.

Honda, Japan's No.2 automaker, has until now used a common blueprint for components on cars built and sold globally for efficiency's sake, and to offer consumers around the world the same specifications for those models.

But Masaya Yamashita, head of Honda's purchasing operations, said that strategy was outdated and making some of its cars unnecessarily pricier in China, India and other regions at a time when South Korea's Hyundai and others were boosting sales with cars that were a better fit for local consumers.

Wasn't Japan recently accused of manipulating their yen?

There you go again not seeing the reality but looking past it. It is quite evident that Honda has woken up to the fact that Hyundai is in their rear view mirror and is a major player.

Guess some just can't see facts.

This company is tied with nissan for having the ugliest lineup, sells on reputation and name only, and their bread and butter blandness is about to be overtaken by the Sonata; I can smell their desperation and fear.

Game over honduh, you're sinking.

Guess they have to give up dated NA VTEC and hug the FI. Things change.

The Honda City, Accord and CR-V are considered excellent cars in countries like India, but Hyundai is making a killing in the lower priced segment, so they just need to make some smaller & cheaper cars to compete.

As long as they don't screw it up like the 2011 Odyssey or the Acura line. I think we need a thread about what is happening to Honda's design.

Is Rip Van Honda finally awake? It's about time. I hope he took the time he was resting to dream up something decent for a change. He has opened his eyes (fallen asleep at the wheel, no less) to find Hyundai not in his rear view mirror, but blowing past his A pillar. Honda missed the boat with a V8 engine, rear drive platform, and was late with blown engines. Now get with it and do away with that garbage design theme going on over at Acura!
