Bentley Issues Recall For Hazardous Hood Ornaments
Bentley Motors is recalling of hundreds of cars with faulty hood ornaments that pose a potential hazard to pedestrians, said the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The recall affects 596 vehicles from the British automaker, of the Arnage, Brooklands and Azure models from 2007-2009.

The problem stems from the "Flying B" hood ornament, depicting a winged B, which is supposed to retract upon impact.

What hazard? The closest thing to me owning a Bently is having the hood ornament fly in my direction.

it's hazardous to pedestrians somehow... not the passengers

What a silly recall! The Ornament is not even standard its optional. Not to stir the pot but you wont see that happen to a Maybach.

Read the article. The Flying B is retractable. It is supposed to retract in the event of hitting a pedestrian. If the mechanism is corroded, then the ornament stays fixed and does some nasty gouging to those fleshy pedestrians.

Good call on addressing this, Bentley. All you need is one incident in which the Flying B is compared to a knife in how it sliced up a pedestrian, and your reputation gets tarnished fast.

I realize that those ornaments can be of a hazard, and accidents just tend to happen, but... does this mean that the tonnage of car under the ornament does not harm pedestrians at all?!

Listen-If you get hit by a Bentley you should be set for life anyway.
