Really? GM Resumes Passing Money Out To Politicians
General Motors Co. has resumed contributing to political campaigns, lifting a self-imposed ban on political spending adopted during the auto maker’s bankruptcy restructuring last year.
GM gave $90,500 to candidates running in the November elections, Federal Election Commission records show. The beneficiaries include midwestern lawmakers, mostly Democrats, who have traditionally supported the industry’s legislative agenda on Capitol Hill, including Sen. Debbie Stabenow and Rep. John Dingell of Michigan and Sen. Sherrod Brown of Ohio.

Considering the Fed owns a large portion of the company should they be doing this at all?
I understand fully independent company like Ford, but GM or Chrysler? Not quite yet in my book.

You're right. Hey Agent009, have I accumulated a cult following? I'd like to know if I'm being deboosted by the same dedicated few people, or heck even if it's all from the same i.p. address lol.

It's a very little amount of money. And I think you'll find that many companies and industries that have received bailout money still contribute to elections. Surprised, shocked, dismayed. Hardly. And really, how is this different from a corporation that gets millions in gov't largess contributing. The entire practice is a travesty in a "democracy." This is no different, and no worse.

As one of your regular deboosters, Joe (altho I think the whole concept of boosting/deboosting is lame), I did not contribute to this one, and actually appreciated your first comment. Cheers.

GM is not a government entity. The government owns stock in GM. What GM does in its daily operations is run its business. Conrtributing to elections is (unfortunately) part of running your business.

thetruth01 - The government has ousted the CEO. Now that seems like a conflict of interest.

sportsbike80...... the UAW was owed millions by GM for retirement funding and just like the government we would prefer cash instead, Also the UAW has plans to sale its share once the IPO goes through since stock dose not pay for retirees.

This reminds me of an elderly woman I know who periodically bails out her adult daughter with sizeable financial hand-outs. Come Christmas time, her loving daughter buys mom a lavish gift, bought with a small portion of the funds she got from mom.
Somehow, this seems wrong to me. I know I am using my own subjective beliefs and criteria to form this possibly off-base conclusion, but there you have my two cents.

no matter what egregious amount GM spends using our money on politicians, it's pocket change compared to the billions Obama funneled to the unions as part of the bailout/payoff. now that was an audatious act (that the media didnt seem to bother with)
