How Much Longer Until Four-Door Coupes Get Played Out?
As cars become more stylized and coupe-like, even when they clearly aren't going to look good that way, the car that started it all is back for round two. The Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class is coming back.
And in a recent advertisement, posted by Mercedes-Benz on YouTube, the company has released a new television spot that shows a bunch of young boys oogling at the new CLS.
But is the new CLS or any other four-door coupe going to have this sort of head-turning appeal now that its become a household sight?
We're going to start a pool.
How much longer until the four-door coupe is played out?

Depends on the demand. I have a 07 CLS63 and I love it. I think the CLS is here to stay for at least 10 years, The A7 looks to be a big hit and people seem to like the CC although it does not have nearly the quality of MB and Audi

The next ad campaign should emphasize on the pronunciation - that a true coupe should be called a coup(ay), even if it still has four doors (or five if it has a big hatch).

Oh they'll be around awhile. The new Bimmer Gran Coupe, A7/S7, updated Panamera and others that are coming out will ensure this. For now these cars are unique and stand out in a crowd full of ho-hum Lexus looking sedans. Once they become common then you'll see demand drop.
What I don't get is why the A5/S5 sportback doesn't come here. It's upscale from an A4so it won't steal sales and yet doesn't kill the wallet the way a 90K A7 will.....

Only till this generation of 4 door coupes. Next gen models will combine the coupe "look" to their mainstream 4 door sedan offerings. Just take a look at both the new Sonata's and the current Camry's side view.

When everyone who wanted one gets one and later discovers that style over practacality is not what it is cut out to be...usually this happens when the wife hits her head on the low roof or the mother-in-law complains about the limit rear seat space.

A slow day at autospies looks like this:
(1) I have nothing worthwhile to say, yet I have a soap box as an "Agent".
(2) Create a post with a subject that incites controversy.
(3) Let the flames begin. Instant content.
Possible subjects for future autospies "articles" include:
- If Batman was real, what car would he drive?
- Does God support the UAW?
- When will Toyota end the bloodbath in the name of profit?
- What's the ultimate douche-bag car?
