Nissan drops 240SX revival in favor of a Sentra Coupe
Although many of you folks wanted to see a new 240SX from Nissan, it appears that we have bad news, as this car will not be produced.

According to Nissan’s chief product planner Larry Dominique, the decision to drop the modern 240SX was taken because an estimated annual volume of 30,000 units simply wouldn’t do the trick for Nissan. Still, there is some good news though. Nissan is considering a Sentra Coupe, rather than introducing a new nameplate to its lineup.

The Sentra desperately needs to remake it's name. The 240SX would be nice to bring back if they could do it right. Maybe upgrade it and call it the 260SX.

Either way the last generation of Sentra that came in SE-R and Spec V dress were pretty nice cars with good power and competition for the Si. Nobody wants a bunch of rectangles that resemble a blocky Prius.

Yea, that reminds me of the 03 or whatever model year M35.

It is way cheaper to do a Sentra coupe then to develop a new coupe.I say redo the 200SER. This can be done on the Sentra platform but with a few changes. 1) The car needs to be 4 to 5 inches lower, the track should be wider,it should also sit about 1/2 inch lower. Further the car should be about 100LBS lighter then the 4 dr.Finally bump the HP up from the current SV from 200 to 220.If Nissan does all that it will be a nice performing FWD sport coupe that would be a step above Hyundais Veloster.

What these product/marketing people don't realize is that image boost and enthusiasm cannot be calculated in numbers alone. Let's say a RWD 240SX replacement sells only 30,000 units a year. But those customers are much more likely to recommend Nissan than the Sentra Coupe-loving average Joe, who doesn't care whether he's driving a Nissan or a Honda. Beancounters are ruining everything!

You have to remember that this is not 1988 - 1994. Car companies can't justify marketing & production experiments that do not leverage cost savings or ROI to the share holders.

While you or I would appreciate a: RWD, great handling, stylish sub-$24,000 sports coupe, not everyone else will.

My advice to Nissan would be:

- Make sure it costs no more than $24,000 - $26,000 out the door
- Make sure it handles great with a Neutral or slightly lively
- Give it a good, torguey engine with a six speed manual
- Give it a good style, make it look "badass professional"
- Only have AWD as a option if it increases performance w/out increasing $$
- Don't even think about putting a "SE-R" or "Spec" badge on it unless it does all of the above.

I'm not sure if there's any need of Sylvia. Make Z/G and the whole Nissan line lighter, you'll get better handling easily. Really, who wants to be sitting in another cramped 1 series?

I grew up wanting a 240SX, but never got around to buying one. I thought they were always a little over-priced and underpowered.

I admit the color choice for that Sentra coupe concept is a bad choice, but I like the design. It may not appeal to everyone, but it definitely has style and doesn't look like every other "cookie-cutter" econobox: Corolla, Civic, Kia/Hyundai, Cobalt, etc. on the market. Hell, that concept looks whole lot better than the BMW 1-Series on the road in the US now.
