Is The Party Over? Nearly 140K 2011 Hyundai Sonatas Recalled

Is The Party Over? Nearly 140K 2011 Hyundai Sonatas Recalled
As 00R has dubbed 2010 Recallfest, another automaker has joined the growing list of manufacturers having to recall a product. This time it's Hyundai.

CNNMoney reports that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is saying:

"On some of these vehicles the steering column intermediate shaft universal joint connections may have been either improperly assembled or insufficiently tightened."

As this isn't some silly recall that has a emblem that could possibly impale someone if you hit them, this could render your 2011 Sonata as a driving paperweight if its steering becomes reduced or lost.

Expect the recall to begin in October.

How is this recall bad (besides the issue) when they accept their mistake and are going to fix it?

Patrick, an entire family was killed in their Lexus as a result of Toyota's "latest issues," not just "a single death." And, then Toyota tried to blame the owners before just owning up and fixing the issue.

At least Hyundai issued this recall without media and public pressure, and before anyone got hurt. And, they submitted the issue for investigation by the NHTSA after only two complaints - neither of which resulted in a crash or injury. CNN.com reported that yesterday, but the article has since been shortened - the full article can still be found on your mobile at http://m.cnn.com/primary/_aFN5Hi-itqiyu4ra8

..Even Apple has quality issues from time to time..
Madonna always seemed to turn negative publicity into a positive, maybe Hyundai can do the same.

lol from time to time. The ipod I bought crashed on a regular basis, near the end it could only play about 3 songs in a row before it would crash. And this was when it was just nearing it's first birthday.

But yes, everybody messes up. If hyundai wasn't issuing recalls I'd be more worried. Then they would be more in line with Toyota over the past couple decades, never admitting to defects.

I think hyundai is junk, but recalls are part of the industry. Nobody can mass produce the perfect anything.

Recalls are not a bad thing. In fact they are a sign that the manufacturer stands by the product. This, or any other recall would not deter me from any brand. As long as the model I am buying has either been treated to the recall fix or has been built with updated parts from the factory. Grow up, people. NOTHING on Earth is above being broken.

A little bit better looking can not cover that Hyundai cars are junk.

Its not about the recall but the reason for it. Come on. Steering column????? If this part fails while you are doing 60 mph, you can only pray. In the case of the Lexus, you can still put the gear in Neutral and coast to a stop.

Rule #1 with new cars: Never buy a first year model.

My father taught me this and has led to me not having any recalls on any of my vehicles.
