Report: Bmw and Saab have agreed on engine-purchasing deal
Bmw AG and Saab announced today that they have agreed on a deal that will allow the Swedish manufacturer to use engines made by Bmw. Apparently, Saab will initially buy engine from Bmw in order to power its nex-generation 9-3 model that will be introduced in late 2012.

Furthermore, Saab is also in talks with Bmw in order to buy diesel engines as well as using the MINI Countryman platform for its upcoming 9-2 model.

An official announcement about this partnership will be made official on Wednesday, when Saab will hold a press conference in Sweden at 11:15 CET.

read elsewhere they're buying 4-cylinders, BMW wouldn't sell the 6's.

I can say my 2 favorite car manufacturers came together whats the chances of BMW actually owning them in the future?????? My first car when I was 18 was a 1988 SAAB 9000 and i oved it. it was a big car and it fit me being a big dude. and SAAB's are still pretty with or w/o BMW engines they are underated but i know when GM took them over they really lost a lot of creditability. GM was THE worst move for SAAB but hopefully Fiat can turn them around to their glory.

I agree I think this is good news for Saab, in retrospect a 9-3 turbo x with the N54 motor would have been a beast

I wonder if this means Saab will be switching to RWD.

Love this move for those who love the BMW drivetrain but would like alternative looks.

The deal is for the 1.6 4 cylinder currently used in Mini Coopers and Peugot's.I kind of doubt BMW is going to let Saab use it's inline turbo 6 although it would not be totally improbable. Because Saabs volume is so small it will not threaten BMW's diectly and they can make money on their engines.

This is tremendously good news, I'd like Saab to survive and I know it can do better than under GM control.
