Prius Pickup Will Be One Of Many New Weapons As Toyota Starts An 18 Month Makeover
Toyota plans to move into new product segments over the next 18 months, as well as redesign several mainstream models.
By the spring of 2012, Toyota will launch all-new versions of the Camry, Yaris, Tacoma and RAV4. Also, the new FT-86 sport coupe, developed with Subaru, should arrive on these shores by that time. And in the wings are a plug-in version of the Prius and a Prius coupe.

This is good, I'd hate to be accidentally fruit looped by local red necks.

I like how I'm a hater, yet neither of you is willing to actually disagree with me.

Oh? So what do you think this prius pickup capabilities would be? Oh wait, I forgot, you don't answer questions.

Joe Limon- It probably would be good for hauling plants home from Home Depot and a few pre-cut sheet of plywood. It would be taxed pulling a dinghy due to the aerodynamic drag. I can't imagine it being used for anything other than casual hauling.
Sadly this would appeal to empty nesters.

haha, you still didn't answer my question. I asked you, what its capabilities will be, not it's torque rating with the prius chassis it'll be hard/impossible to full-fill a light duty truck application. Judging your response, I'm left believing you simply disagreed with me not for my points, but because you don't like my persona.

Oh yeah, Toyota will single handedly capture 50 percent of the U.S. truck market with that.

Yep just like Honda did with the much more capable Ridgeline...
It will sell ~1,500 units a month max.

Agree. One ugly beast. Without any redeeming truck qualities.

That picture has nothing to do with what will be released.....except that it has 4 wheels.

One of the more interesting engineering improvements i saw on the Highlander Hybrid drive train, was all electric 4x4 . Whereby a powerful motor is used drive the rear wheels in certain conditions. I truly think this will take the hybrid closer to its performance goals as it will be way more efficient then using a clutch pack or differential for 4wd. With the onset of Lithium battery packs and more efficient harnessing of mechanical energy for storage, the electric 4x4 could be a really cool game changer for a lot of light applications (cars, crossovers etc)
Just my two cents ...

You know how school buses have the words "SCHOOL BUS" on the back, where they've taken the words and simply stretched them vertically to fill the available space, and the typography is just horrible and the whole effect looks clumsy and amateurish and you can hardly stand to look at it?
Um, yeah.

wow, really, do you all not recognize this piece of junk for what it is? well, if it took 19 comments to figure it out, i guess i'll take the accolades of letting you know it's the A-BAT concept from like several years ago. yukkkkKK!

This thing, no matter what it is, is not doing it for me. I don't want or need a serious truck. I wish they'd bring back the "Hi-lux" P.U.

Someone had to do it first. Toyota is the perfect company to head this up. They are #1 in practical hybrid technology. If you don't produce it you can't fix it. By 3rd generation it should be a tight small truck.

if they have buses using hybrid tech for transporting people in your communities, i'm sure a pick-up is not a hard task to jump over.
only a matter of time...Prius will surely have a MPV styled van, sedan, coupe, pick-up (baja/el camino styled) and probably a small SUV. the tech is there, it's just the advancement on it to release all it's capabilities.

christ, a prius pickup?! they already make the most boring looking lineup of all the mainstream carmakers. design is always an afterthought (if it occurs at all). are they now trying to make the ugliest lineup?
