PARIS MOTOR SHOW: Is Jaguar's C-X75 Going To STEAL The Show?

PARIS MOTOR SHOW: Is Jaguar's C-X75 Going To STEAL The Show?
Today, out of absolutely no where, while attending an automotive event I saw someone holding an iPad gawking at a photo. I got a look at it and said "What the hell is that?! It's awesome."

Then I was blown away with the response: "It's a Jaguar."

And judging from Jaguar's of late, this is actually a good looking one -- in 00R's opinion.

To me it looks like a Ford GT40, sloshed together with a Jaguar XK and they both mated with an old-school XJR-15. A weird, peculiar mix but it all makes sense if you pay attention to the details.

But when you get down to the nitty gritty, who cares about its design when you've got 968 horsepower and 1180 pound-feet of torque by way of a turbine electric whirligig?

With this in mind, do you believe this may be the car that takes the 2010 Paris Motor Show?

Designed as a range-extended electric two-seater supercar, it explores the outer limits of both performance and sustainability’, says Jaguar. The performance aspect is taken care of quite nicely by a 968bhp maximum power output, while the ability to go zero emissions in electric mode (for 68 miles) and recharge the batteries with efficient micro gas turbines caters for the sustainability aspect. Average CO2 emissions of 28g/km are also particularly startling.

That power figure is twinned with 1180lb ft of torque, and helps hustle the 1350kg C-X75 to 62mph in 3.4sec and to 100mph in a staggering 5.5sec, while the quarter-mile sprint is rattled off in 10.3sec. Top speed is 205mph...

Clarkson's next ride.

Not sure. He's pretty anti-technology and loves pistons. But then again he likes to be unpredicatable. I could see him licking the steering wheel just as easily as having a dog crap on the hood.

The bodywork looks gorgeous, except for that awkward rear end and rear window/deck area. The interior looks too "1970s Futurama" for my taste. I'll bet money it doesn't go into production with the turnbines. In case you don't know, gas turbine engines suck massive quantities of fuel below Flight Levels.

As a data point, a "fuel efficient" turbo-prop or single-engine very light jet burns about 50 gallons per hour at cruise altitude. Over 50% more at lower altitudes.

Gorgeous car a good tribute to the original XJ220

The car looks good but nothing about it says Jaguar, just like nothing about the SLR Mclaren said Mercedes

you must have never seen the Jaguar XJ220 its lines its grill and alot of its styling elements were pulled from that classic supercar

There's also some E & J type styling cues around the light pods. Hell, if you look hard enough, you'll see a little Oldsmobile Aerotech in the rear of the car(though I think that is more to aerodynamics).

I have just a few things to say:

1. The people at Jaguar have totally lost their minds, and I love it.

2. I love it: it is like a combination of an XJ220, XJ-13, and a D-Type (see a front 1/4 image and look down the side)

3. I want one (it has 1,180 lb*ft of torque for god's sake!) I have to admit that one thing that I want to do almost more than anything (aside from own it of course) is HEAR it with its gas turbines. The press release says when operating at 80,000 rpm, each turbine requires 25,000 liters of air per minute.

4. Why is it that this has been one Autoblog, Insideline, Motorauthority, almost all day, and it is just on here?

yeah it actually used a Rover engine a 3.5 liter producing 542hp which even by todays standards displacement versus output its pretty amazing, the engine was the least of the Jags issues besides turbo lag, it was subpar brakes, and its enormous size which compromised its performance were huge issues along with price which by today would probably be what some $600,000 otherwise it remains one of the fastest supercars of all time and a legend in its own right

Ironic, 6 cylinder XJ220 in flush times, and this MONSTER in lean times.

Those headlights look really strange - makes the car look cross eyed. The rear is hideous. There is something really odd about the look of this car - the colour and some of the styling makes it look like a concept car from the early 2000s. That said, I know most supercars look better in the metal.

Georgeous, I'd like to get one when I get tired of my SL550.

Make mine dark blue with a cream interior.

This car could & would steal the show if Jaguar could actually green light the project and start production of the car in 18 months or less. Sadly, the chances of this happening are slim and none. And as we all know from "Kingpin", slim just left the building.

I like the twin-turbine powerplant, but it's going to loud.

This thing UGLY as turd but I guess since it got a Jaguar logo on it instead of Toyota or Lexus, it next best thing. I like Jaguar expecally, the new XF and XKR but this thing is HIDEOUS.

Another concept that won't see the light of day??? Looks great but.

It probably will not see the light of day but the front end and the rear taillights should show up on future production cars. I think that was the whole point. I like the car. It's does have some retro que's from past Jaguar's and it is sleek and elegant at the same time. The the twin turbine range extender technology sounds very interesting and plausable though. Much smaller and lighter then a convential piston or diesel engine to back up the electric motors.
