Volkswagen Rumoured To Be Eyeing NASCAR Entry?
The latest entry into America's most popular motorsports series could very well be the first ever from Germany. According to Matthias Muller, the newly appointed CEO of Porsche, Volkswagen Group -- his employer's parent company -- is considering entering NASCAR.
Should it follow through, Volkswagen would be just the second foreign automaker to participate in NASCAR. Toyota was first, entering the competition in 2007.

With everyone using the COT chassis and applying their own skin over the top, who cares?
It's going to happen eventually and from other foreign makes as well.

I hope VW buys out NASCAR and turns it into watchable racing.

Please no, for the love of god dont enter NASCAR. Toyota entering was already bad enough, NASCAR should stick to American automakers.

VW would be an interesting addition. It would probably give them enough data to improve on reliability.

With this years' addition of the Mustang and Challenger cars to the Nationwide series (which actually resemble their road going counterparts and strengthen brand identity), NASCAR is paving the way for the same to happen with the Cup cars by 2012. Once this happens (stock race cars that actually resemble stock cars) NASCAR's popularity will go through the roof. Again. Every manufacturer is considering getting into the NASCAR game for this reason.

Shouldn't be hard. The 2011 Passat looks like an early 2000's Impala. Can't wait to see another shell with stickers and an identical engine to everyone else in the field making Left turns all day.
Yawn! I'll stick to watching my Rally on HD Theater.

Obviously to highlight the fact that VW is building cars in the US. The Nascar thing would be to solidify VW as a US brand. The body will obviusly be the midsize sedan from Tennesee.
