2012 Lexus GS: first details revealed, GS-F in the works
The first development test-mules for the next-generation model of the Lexus GS luxury sedan that’s due next year have been spotted. The current Lexus GS luxury sedan has been on the market since the 2006 model year so it’s definitely good timing, especially since the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class and BMW 5-Series, and the next-generation Audi A6 will soon be launched.

In these latest spy shots of the upcoming model, it seems that overall length was cut slightly, but the wheelbase is expected to remain at 112.2 inches. These modified wheel arches suggest that the new Lexus GS will get a slightly wider track.

This is going to be a really interesting model for Lexus. They've really got a chance to turn up the sporty dial on the GS to compete against the 5 Series and E class. This article is a little misleading, the smaller V6 is actually for Europe (there was some Lexus executive interview that stated this i'll try and find it). Not having a V8 would be a killer for competition, here in the US they'll keep the V6 the V8 and the Hybrid, and hopefully they'll drop that V10 from the LFA into the GS and be an awesome car

Brand new platform? Always welcome. I think the design needs to be brand new as well.

450hps for GS-F is another lost game. For God's sake this segment of sport cars have over 500hps, why is Lexus even bothering to enter it if they can't match that? I think this power should've been given to the current IS-F so it can pass its competitors.

They're basically killing this beautiful car with these changes!

That's why I think they will use a detuned version of the LFA V10. There's no way they would spend that much developing that engine without trying to put it into production cars. The article might say they want to use the engine from the ISF but the article also states that they will drop the V8 version of the GS which is only true for Europe not the US

The original JDM GS based sedan was a twin-turbo charged, AWD monster. Toyota should be looking back at the cars heritage to take it forward in the future. Making the car smaller is a good start.

This re-do needs to add substance to the chssis. At an auto show I saw the current GS next to the Jaguar display. The Lexus was a flimsy attempt at a mid-level sports sedan compared to the chunky, substantial and beautiful Jag XF.

The Lexus GS came out in 2006 and the Jag XF came out in 2010, what do you expect? Name cars tend to look better than old one. Why don't we wait for the next Gen Lexus GS and then compare it again.

I hope Lexus use a either a V10 from the Lexus LF-A or a Turbo V8 and give it 550 hp to make competitive in this segment.

Lexus, either play big or don't play at all because you're going pissed a lot of people off with all the hype of your upcoming sports sedan.

And yes, I agree they should've give the Lexus IS-F 450hp instead of the 420hp it have right now.

Compared to increased power, I'd rather they shed some weight like AUDI is doing.
