Toyota Prius sales top 2 million mark
Toyota has announced it has reached a milestone with its first hybrid production vehicle, the Toyota Prius, which has just hit the two million sales mark.

Since its launch in 1997, the petrol-electric car had shifted about 2,012,000 units, the company said. The Prius is currently a hot-seller in over 70 countries, especially in Japan and North America.
The Prius has steadily grown popular worldwide, selling 285,700 units in 2008 and 404,200 in 2009. It has already sold 401,300 units in the first nine months this year, the company said.
One factor behind this exceptional sell of the Prius could be the rising awareness of global warming. In recent years, the price of petrol has also increased significantly.

Congratulations Toyota! You've successfully lowered global carbon dioxide levels by 0.00098% while consuming 8.3% of the worlds lanthanum production.

I'm not being sarcastic, I'm truly congratulating Toyota. Before I ran through the numbers, I thought they were using 2-3 times as many tons of rare earth metals. And their overall impact on the carbon imprint is two to three orders of magnitude better then I expected. Who knew 2 million prius's could actually reduce 34 million tons of carbon dioxide output over their entire lifespan, sure it might be nothing compared to the 3.48 trillion tons that already exist in the atmosphere... but it's a start isn't it?

LOL...Joe, you philistine! Praise the Prius and Toyota for at least changing the game for the automotive industry. Let gas get up to $4/gal again and you'll see how quick they get to 3 mill.
