Say What? Nissan To Offer Loan Car Program To Leaf Owners To Overcome Range Issues
Struggling to find a way to overcome the so-called “range anxiety” about electric vehicles,  TheDetroitBureau.com has learned that Nissan is preparing a program that, if brought to market, would give Leaf buyers a longer-range alternative – at least for one week a year – by providing them with a no-cost loan of a conventionally-powered vehicle that could be used, for example, for a longer vacation than possible with the 100-mile range of the Leaf.

That's the issue with pure-electrics: Finite range combined with long refueling time. Is anyone on this list old enough to remember the old proprosal of battery swapping stations, where a driver pulls their car into a service bay, and in a couple of minutes, their depleated battery is swapped for a fully charged one? Great concept, except that batteries have a finite lifespan, degrading in performance as they get older, so a driver would surely be pissed if his new battery pack was swapped for a 4-year-old one.

In any event, finite range + long refuel time is yet one more reason why the pure-electric *concept* is better than the *reality* we have at this time.

This is why electric cars are good for driving to and from work, or driving around town doing errands etc. They aren't intended to drive across the country like conventional cars are. If people use them like one should use an electric car then this won't be a problem.

Well said Captain! I like how GM tries to counter pure Electric Vehicles by saying that you can't drive them across the country. How many people drive across the country anymore? Those who say they want the option of doing so are fooling themselves! Everyone I know that drives across country rents a car to do so, unless they are making a long-term move and can not afford to have their car shipped.

What a dumbass idea. Does anybody still feel that the Leaf is a better alternative to the Prius than a Volt is? You've got to be kidding me. Yet another indication that Nissan engineers have no solution to automotive challenges and this is because they have no damn sense.

The Volt is the best current pure electric car, if you wanted to drive across state or the country you can do so right now.
