RUMOR: BMW Green Lights Vision EfficientDynamics

RUMOR: BMW Green Lights Vision EfficientDynamics
Although 00R is somewhat surprised, I know I shouldn't be. BMW rarely produces a concept that doesn't get put to use in some form or fashion. The Vision EfficientDynamics is not an exception to the rule.

And according to BMW insider, Scott26, the VED will use the powertrain from the BMW Concept ActiveHybrid 5-Series. This means we're looking at a straight-six, twin-turbo motor featuring electric drive with a boost function.

But since we know it still was a concept, what do you think will be left on the design room floor?

At a glance:
  • VED green-lighted for production
  • Start of production in 2013 at Lepzig
  • First available with a regular combustion engine (drivetrain from BMW Concept Active 5 - per Scott26)
    • The drive system featured in the BMW Concept 5 Series ActiveHybrid consists of a straight-six gasoline engine with TwinPower Turbo technology, eight-speed automatic transmission, and electric drive. Integration of BMW ActiveHybrid technology in a sedan already extremely efficient with its “conventional” combustion engine reduces both fuel consumption and emissions once again by more than 10 per cent. At the same time the electric motor offers a boost function, supporting the gasoline engine in generating particularly dynamic drive power for an even more sporting driving experience in the car.
    • The drivetrain technology featured in the BMW Concept 5 Series ActiveHybrid allows all-electric, zero-emission motoring in city traffic. At the same time a special hybrid-based Auto Start Stop function offers additional efficiency by consistently switching off the combustion engine when stopping at the traffic lights, a road junction, or in congested traffic.
  • Full Hybrid (1.5l inline 3 diesel + e-motors) to follow later
  • 4-seat configuration (per Scott26)
  • Will maintain shape from concept car (per Scott26)

I kinda figured this would happen with all the speculation and comotion on www.DONTBLOGABOUTTHIS.com Their little movie clip they have on there that definitley shows whatever test mule they have at least the front end looks like the VED but if you watch the movie clip about 10 times or more like i did....lolololol....to me this car could possibly be BMW's answer to the R8...I could be wrong but watch the video and speculate for yourself. but I cant wait to see the finished product in a couple of years im sure it will be a winner

BMW cars have gestation period of 7 years. And 6 years if it is a little faster. This car was actually given the go ahead in 2004 by the board of dircetors that approves all production cars. So this is not breaking news!

Seems like it'll be hard to clean, but I'd love to have all those awesome, single-pieced aero stuff!!!

I am very pleased with the thought and don’t feel like adding anything in it.
