Report: Bmw X4 coming in 2014, will take on Porsche Cajun

In order to expand its utility-vehicle lineup, it appears that Bmw is set to add an smaller X4, with a range-topping M version. The car is set to make its debut in 2014 and will carry the same design lines as the Bmw X6, but at a smaller scale.

The technical part will be borrowed from the 2011 Bmw X3. The design process will be inspired by the X6, which was inspired by the X5: the new X4 will receive the same front fascia as the X3, while the rear end will be completely new.

Read the most recent Car and Driver. Porsche DID take on Ferrari - and won...at least in the eyes of the drivers/writers.

So instead of making an X3 two-door they are going to make an X4? Where is the new 8-series or M7, or X7 to go against the GL.

Audi Q5 - BMW X3
Audi Q7 - BMW X5
Porsche Cajun - BMW X4

Wouldn't they be better off just making it and forcing Audi to come up with a two-door version of the Porsche than saying the BMW is going against Porsche? I've never put Porsche and BMW in the same category, especially when Audi makes the competitive cars for BMW. Unless I'm mixed up and this is Porsche doing to Audi what VW did to Audi. Increase prices to the point where you could buy an Audi instead of a VW and offer cars like the Phaeton.
