How Many Volts Do YOU Think Will GM Sell In The First Year?
General Motors Co. said today it may increase previously announced production plans for the extended range electric Chevrolet Volts.

Doug Parks, GM's global vehicle line executive for electric vehicles, said today GM will build "10,000 or 15,000" Volt models in 2011.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Business of Plugging In conference, Parks said GM could build up to 60,000 Volt models in 2012. In July, GM upped production plans for 2012 from 30,000 to 45,000.

I already know that the first run is already accountant for!

You keep spreading your ignorance. Can you tell me how the volt differs from a leaf with a weed whipper in the trunk?

If you don't think the US is the only country assisting it's manufacturing infrastructure you and many Pius owners will be in for a surprise.

that's a tough question... still, i think the first run will sell like hot cakes. I am curious about the next one!

Why are the only sites that are "bashing" the Volt are sites that GM looked at and laughed when they asked if they could get their hands on one? I just read a few articles from those who have actually TESTED the Volt and they achieved some impressive numbers.

I know this site may not let me reveal the names of those but one of them rhymes with Boater Blend...

So far the sites defending the Volt are doing testing in VERY controlled situation where the car is ALWAYS topped off with charge.

The typically household will unplug run around a bit here and there and plug it in at the end of the day. NOT what these testers are doing.

Agent009, what do you think the typical household puts on a vehicle daily? The critics of the volt so far have been doing vacation scenarios where days at a time the vehicle is not seeing a charge.

@Lacman

You have to stop ass-uming.

Considering I was invited and declined GM's generous offer.

Oh yeah, BTW, maybe if you saw the Popular Mechanics piece you'd change your mind. Let me direct you:

009, that "controlled environment" is probably pretty close to reality. Since charging a Volt at home on a standard 120 volt outlet takes about half the time a Leaf does (in other words it could actually be done overnight after work, before leaving for work the next day), my guess is most people who buy a Volt will actually keep it charged. Most consumers probably won't even pay for the 240 volt charging station because it's not really necessary (you HAVE TO buy the 240 volt station for the Leaf if you actually need to use the car daily). Besides, if you're going to complain about the Volt needing to be recharged nightly, then that goes double for the Leaf, which not only takes 19 hours on a 120 volt outlet to charge totally, but also can't be driven at all if it ISN'T charged, and has almost no range on a partial charge, especially with accessories in use. All problems the Volt does not have.

So far I'm seeing a vehicle that outperforms a Prius, gets better economy than a Prius, and is infinitely more practical than a Leaf (i.e. it's the best of all worlds), and has been getting glowing reviews everywhere. Of the three vehicles it seems to have the most positives and the fewest drawbacks, and yet of the three it's the only one getting thrashed in this forum. I just don't get it.

I'm pretty sure GM will sell all the first year models.

I'm not sure why all the bashing over not meeting the numbers. Tesla was way off on the roadster. While disappointing, this is all early generation technology that will improve over time.

The Volt , GM will sell every single one of them for the first 2 years !!!
Why ?
1) The Volt is the shining symbol of the new GM . What we paid (tax payers)
paid for for our direct 50 billion in bailout cash. It will not be allowed to fail by the Govt and all its extended influence( hence the kid glove treatment for the Volt by Major media channels)

2) Small run for the first 2 years and heavy upfront tax rebate $7500 ,(back door rebates to local govt in terms of buying energy efficient cars : read "Volt") will ensure that whatever Joe Public wont buy the govt. (federal, state, local) will !

The real story will be apparent a year or 2, Post IPO, when GM has to stand on its own and ramp up battery production and compete with other electric, plugin hybrid vehicles. To many question marks about that right now...

But without a doubt, the Volt is an amazing car!! it might not be what you are looking for, but it will change how the mainstream perceives plugin hybrid cars and that my fellow posters is great for America.

I think the Leaf will be way more popular.

Because it's a purely electric car.
