What should a traditional British luxury car be like? The New Jaguar XJ challenges traditional notions
While the new Jag XJ and XJL maintain many of the traditional Jaguar styling cues, such as the wire grille, they also have a post-modern coupe-like roofline. As Executive Road Warrior magazine notes, very little has changed in Jaguar design over the past quarter century or so – UNTIL NOW. Thanks to Ian Callum, Jaguar’s head designer, and his team, the XJ has been completely reinterpreted for the twenty-first century.

The fairly extensive review includes lots of photos and a video interview with Ian Callum.

aside from some electronic niggles and a harsher ride than the rest of the class, I haven't seen any negative writeups on the new XJ. Looks like they did a super job.

Further the ride is only slightly harsher. The car still rides smoother then say a Porsche Panamera or Aston Martin Rapide yet it handles almost as well. i think it's fair trade off. Jaguar had no choice but to move to a more modern design. While there are plenty of traditionalists out their that like to be a classic looking cars(eg- Morgan and Bristal)they sell in miniscule numbers. Certainly not enough to sustain the cost of a mainstream luxury car maker. Rolls Royce and Bentley can also get away with the traditional look because they are owned by BMW and VW.I don't believe that either could survive on their own today.Frankly Jaguar was in the same mess before they were taken over by Ford and even after the fact. Ford help make Jaguar more reliable but did not do enough to allow Jaguar to redefine themselves.
