For the text message playback, do you still have to look at the screen to choose which text? And how easy would it be to remember the correct twist/click procedure to navigate the menu without glancing?

actually the last couple comparisons I saw it in it came in second overall to the Q5, ahead of competitors like the GLK and RDX. That's pretty good for a 6 year old model. The new one definitely looks about 1000x nicer inside and out, which were the main flaws to the old one, so I'm curious to see how the new one stacks up to the competition.

It drives identical to the X5.
Feels much more solid than last car and is the driver in this competitive set.
Suspension blows all others away.

001 stated @2:18secs that he believes this is the nicer of the two interiors when comparing to the Audi Q5. First of all, let me say that I am not suprised at all that you made that comment (most will agree). Second of all, if you look at both of them side by side, the BMW's interior is "harder" looking than Audi's. When you sum it all up, it looks like the X3 somewhat copied the Q5 when it comes to the layout. Go take a look and you will see what Im saying...

Totally agree with LACMAN. Judging by the video of the X3, the interior still does not match up to the Q5. The metal detail around the Q5 wood trim gives the interior a more modern and higher quality look. I also think the instrument cluster on the X3 looks rather dated compared to the Q5's with the multifunction color screen between the analog dials.

Look again. The area between and below the speedo and tach is a black panel color LCD that extends from the right-most edge of the speedo over to the right-most edge of the tach. It's not supposed to look like a separate screen, it's designed to look like it's integrated (i.e. that there aren't any "breaks" in the cluster). BMW started that on the new 7-Series, and the new 5-Series has this feature as well.

making it less expensive than a less powerful, lesser equipped Q5 3.2.
