Does Cadillac HELP or HURT Their Reputation Claiming They Are The NEW Standard Of The World?
When Cadillac launched the new CTS-V, I think it is safe to say most of the automotive industry was stunned. 556 horsepower coming from a supercharged LSA powerplant, my God the car went like stink.

With a zero to 60 time of 3.9 seconds and going on the German's turf to lap the Nurburgring faster than them was pretty epic. You have to know that when the lap time came in it must have been a truly rewarding moment for the General Motors team. What 00R would have done to be a fly on the wall in that room!

In a recent advertisement for the CTS-V, Cadillac goes out on a limb and says "Cadillac, the new standard of the world." And considering its accomplishment you cannot really blame the company.

However, does this HELP or HURT the brand?

Think of it this way: when a co-worker comes to the water cooler and says "Yeah'p I am the coolest," is he/she?

Is there a better tagline that you can think of?

Let us know in the comments down below.

It only hurts if you are naive enough to believe everything you read or hear, bought a Cadillac and then regretted your purchase. It also helps that GM did not explicitly state what/where they are the class of the world.

I don't doubt for a minute that Cadillac has made the 180 degree change (and I'm glad to say for the better) but if asked, and at the risk of sounding disrespectful, I wouldn't be able to point out which standard (refinement, performance, handling, power, style, etc.) is it that Cadillac stands on top of the world. I still place it much higher than Hyundai, Lincoln, VW (remember the Phaeton), etc. though but I still regard MB, BMW, Audi, Lexus above Cadillac.

It would depend upon the world in which you live. In my world, Cadillac doesn't even exist.

How ironic that Cadillac would show off their car on the world's most famous race courses; yet, they couldn't sell one of these outside of the US yet alone in Europe. To be a standard of the "World", you need to actually sell cars all over the world. So, no, I do not see them remotely in the same league as Audi, BMW, or Mercedes-Benz. Even Lexus and Jaguar are more world-class than Cadillac.

1. No real flagship
2. No convertible
3. No 7 series competitor

Cadillac has some great cars on the horizon but today the tittle of "The NEW Standard Of The World?" does not hold true. I can say this as I work for GM.

This Slogan is for things to come not really for what they do/don't have today.

The convertible was a disaster because they put a crappier engine in a corvette and priced it at 75 grand.
The flagship is not a concern a 7 series driver won't diver a Cadillac and a Mercedes S class driver won't know Cadillac made a car that size anyway becasue they are blind by there "bestestest Mercedes" rhetoric. They need a 3 series compeitor, in the works, a 5 series competitor, next gen CTS and something in between a 7 series and a 5 series with all wheel drive to sell volume like an Infiniti M37/Q45 sized car that looks a million times better...so they are working on that too.

If you mean "No 7 series competitor" as being in the shop for repairs more than being driven, then I guess not.

It's a somewhat clever play on Cadillac's old 'standard of the world' ad line from many many years ago - some of you younger people probably don't know this. As for the new standard - again ad stuff but I have to say they certainly have my attention now. Will I buy one next? I don't know, but I'll certainly take a look at them which is something I would not have done 5 years ago - so mission accomplished!

Cadillac is on the right track it seems, now I wonder why it's taking so long for Lexus/Infiniti to come up with more vehicles to compete against AMG/M/RS? I know they have the IS-F, the LFA, but that seems pretty much it... The Japanese certainly knows how to make fast cars (e.g., GTR), I'm just wondering why they don't make more across more model lines?

These new commercials show the direction Cadillac’s headed in. I think you are looking too deep into the new tagline for now but for this reason, I think the tagline should have made its debut with the ATS. Let me explain why. Next year, the STS and DTS will be phased out. That leaves the entire line as: CTS portfolio, Escalade portfolio, and SRX. XTS isnt set to arrive until the end of next year and the ATS sometime in 2012. See what Im saying now?

Although it might bring some people into the showroom, if I didnt know any better I would look around the showroom and say to myself, "Whats so standard of the world here?"

Idk, just my 2cents...

Oh, (fyi) this is about the fourth commercial being used with this new tagline. They also used it on a new SRX commercial (although I dont know why)...

they are not hurting themselves by saying this new slogan. its just meaningless.... its like when infiniti said " the flagship of luxury cars" for the redesigned 2002 Q45 because they had the greatest headlights.. total nonsense.
one cts-v doesnt make you awesome, if it did nissan could say they are number 1 after the gtr which has been spanking cars twice as expensive and god knows it will destroy cts-v as well.
they dont have a lineup nearly as beautiful as mercedes..

as for "nguyenvuminh" what the hell is wrong with you ? " you place cadillac higher than hyundai ? Hyundai is crap !!!! dont ever mention Hyundai in the same sentence as cadillac.

Cadillac is on the right track, but has a long way to go, maybe if they had the 16 as their flagship sedan priced at no more than 70k and the CIEN ( which was beautiful) as their halo car priced at no more than 125k they could make this new claim...

till then, they should go back to " NEVER GIVE UP MY CADILLAC, AGAIN "

Well, the Cadillac is surely the "Cadillac of Cadillacs" :-) I can't get past their styling to comment on whether they are noteworthy in any other respect.

I don't care what they believe or what products they make. They used my tax money, wasted it by bailing out union workers' pension benefits, they should have gone under since they clearly can't operate profitably and don't deserve to stay afloat.

The only American brand I would consider is Ford.

They want to use it as slogan. It was used in GM marketing early in the last century. They have a lot of products coming out and they have blatantly benchmarked BMW AG, so they wanted a tagline as well. BMW AG has BMW M Gmbh, now GM has "V" which is verylame, but it works so somehow that they also needed a tagline as well for marketing to tie in the "new Cadillac" and a break from the brand's old man past. Which it still has!

The new GM tagline is not true but what they hope to be in a sense someday. BMW's "Ultimate Driving Machine" is used and people actually take it literally. They should not, it is intended as goal for the company that is used in marketing for the public to see and hear.

It doesn't hurt them. For jerks that wouldn't consider Cadillac anyway, the slogan won't make a difference. For people who like Cadillac and want to see it rise again, the slogan is ambitious and bold.

"...Cadillac launched the new CTS-V, I think it is safe to say most of the automotive industry was stunned"

Yeah, I heard BMW, Audi, and MB closed up shop. They each have teams of engineers disecting the masterpiece now!

I think ACME was the engine provider for GM...(parts on loan from one Wile E. Coyote)
