The baddest Lexus IS EVER!

Since Lexus' announcement in December that Team Lexus will field two IS 350s in the 2006 American Le Mans Series' GT2 class, the team has been hard at work preparing the cars for their first racing season. The new cars will challenge GT2-class stalwarts Porsche and Panoz while taking on new entries from Ferrari and BMW.

"Although we'd love to be racing this weekend in Houston, building a new, competitive, GT2 car from the ground up is a complex undertaking," said Team Lexus owner Chuck Goldsborough. "Our team has been working very hard to design and build the new cars, with inevitable challenges along the way. Once complete, the task of development then starts and must ramp up very quickly."

The level of GT2 American Le Mans Series competition underscores the challenges inherent in building a sedan to compete on even terms. Top GT2 competitors include the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, Ferrari F430GT, Panoz Esperante GTLM and BMW M3—all formidable cars.

With its production-based V6 providing more than 450 hp to propel a race car weighing less than 2,800 lbs., the new IS 350 GT2 promises to be plenty quick. The car also will retain its double wishbone front and multi-link rear suspension, suitably modified for the task and tuned to work with the large BBS-mounted Michelin racing slicks. StopTech will provide an upgraded brake package.

The team expects to begin testing in the next few weeks with the goal of a race debut in July. But the final decision on race timing will be based on test and development program results. "With the majority of the American Le Mans Series schedule taking place after July 1, it simply makes sense to be patient and develop the car properly," said Philip Gaviola, Lexus motorsports manager. "And with the caliber of competition in the GT2 class, it's going to be a steep learning curve regardless of when the IS 350 makes its debut."

But racing is more about performance than about looks. Wonder why Lexus took on the GT2 class? With their resources is would appear P1 or P2 would be the choice.

Tell that to gawzilla, the Skyline that entered the SWC series this year. Was going to rewrite history. Best finish so far is 17th from what I can see. Takes more than a reputation, strange all of the Skyline groups are really quiet about this car now. Before it first ran that was all they ould talk about, was it mopping up and teaching the Germans a thing or two. Talk is cheap action speaks louder than words.

I actually hope this does well, competition always brings out the best.

Whats up with the Front wheel drive dragster look? Of course they have to widen the body to cover the extra inches in suspension needed for fast turning Lemans. I don't see it coming close to winning. But hey its a start and the Corvette owns Lemans the last few years.

As for Skyline, Nissan employed Lotus to fine tune its handling and hired Cosworth to help build its power plant and make it pass emissions. Skyline = Euro. So look up facts before trashing Euro or any other...

Hmmm. dunno about that JUGNA. Toyota has had success in CART and a bit in the NASCAR Craftsman series. But outside of that that have had very limited success on road racing over here. I might be very wrong so jump in and educate me if need be (I am not a Toyota affectionado). Now they did do the Toyota Atlantic series, but since everything is a Toyota, you really can't count that as a win. You can't lose.

In F1 they have finally moved up to 4th overall after 5 years of scrapping out out with companies that they could have bought. (That might have been cheaper). That is a very difficult arena, and I applaud them for going there. It takes alot of guts to take on F1.

Toyota and Lexus are same thing when it comes to Competitions.
But this will change soon,Maybe half this year 2006,and completly separate from each other from 2007 Onwards.

Lexus never had a car which can compete against Porsche.
But hopefully they r coming with their challengers,like LF-A and IS-R 500BHP.

1 more thing, from now on we can't say that Lexus is not focussing much on Performance.Especially there new generation cars like IS and GS450h are very fast. They are even faster than Porsche 4 and 4S tiptronic.

I strongly believe that Lexus will swiftly improve in this area(Performance).

Toyota is very new in F1,and already 4th in the ranking. They r the richest company in F1.And if u have money,it becomes very easy to win in the F1.

So the IS went from 450 BHP (Will) at the top of this page to 500HP (JUGNU)? Man that is quick development on Lexus part. Wonder if it will increase over night to 550 BHP?

Your quote:

Toyota has been in F1 since 2000 so this is their 7th season. and the arguably the richest team in the history of the sport can only muster 4th place. The fact is F1 will never be easy for anyone, Right now Toyota is not a blip on the radar as far as F1 goes for 2006 they are dead last in points.
11 Renault
9 Ferrari
8 McLaren
7 Honda
5 Sauber
4 Williams
2 Red Bull
2 Toyota

The pole position says it all too:
0 Toyota

So I guess to say they are successful is all relative to how high your expectations are. Yes they show up and they finish.....

Success!!!!!!

Damn even the French are beat you guys, have they no respect.
