Volkswagen Formula 1 Entry To Be Discussed Next Month
Volkswagen will discuss the possibility of entering formula one during a meeting in November.

That is the claim of Hans-Joachim Stuck, the former grand prix driver who is now a motor sport representative for the German auto giant.

Reports recently have suggested that Porsche, or another VW subsidiary Audi, could enter formula one when the engine regulations change in 2013.

Rubbish! Neither F1 or NASCAR will happen. In the case of NASCAR, yes, they looked into it and actually felt that it was one of the most competitive racing genre's in the world today but that there was too much emphasis on the marketing and not enough on the technology. F1 rummors have been spread around for over a decade. Asside from pure German ego, there is no sound financial reason to do it. It is soooo expensive and the millions it would take to get there just don't justify the expense. Even as an engine supplier, there seems to be a slippery slope leading straight to team ownership and then utter failure. Tne Brits and Italians pretty much own F1. Unless VW group can partner with McLaren or Williams, they won't stand a chance.

Don't forget the French. Renault is having a good year (despite what happened in Japan) and is currently in 5th place in the constructors and Red Bull is very likely to win both the constructors and drivers championships using Renault engines.

F1 needs one of the VAG marques to return to F1. I would think that Porsche or Lamborghini would be likely choices, especially since both left the sport. With Bentley in LeMans, maybe Bugatti will get the nod.

First 2-3 years they will be no better than teams like Force India or Torro Rosso. Question is would a big name like Bentley or Lamborghini or Bugatti accept that. They surely don't intend to spend like Toyota or some other teams did and get their car 1/2 second quicker by spending 100 or 200 million dollars.

But i hope the rules get better and the new resource restriction agreement between the teams improves so that new teams can enter F1 and have good chances of success.

So i also think it very unlikely VW will enter F1 now maybe as an engine supplier around 2012.
