FIRE! 1 Down, 499 To Go
Oh-kay. Take one part Italian sports car and add another part fire and what do you have?
No, not a Ferrari 458 Italia.
This time it's something much, much worse: a Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione.
On that note, to the picture...
Sadly enough we have to report that again an Italian car has burned down. This time it’s not a Lamborghini or a Ferrari but an Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione. The fire was caused by a short-circuit at the battery resulting in a catastrophic burn down...

Are cars just simply getting to complex these days?

It's not the complexity, it's the packaging. All manufacturers are moving to lighter materials and tighter packaging around the engine and exhaust.

This story hurts me. The 8C Competizione is one of the most beautiful cars ever produced. Judging from the pics, it looks like that fire started in the rear.
Fiat products seem to be having issues with fire recently.
As for the LF-A comments, Toyota has problems with their cars, as do all manufacturers, but cooling and heat dissipation are not one of them. Rust and other things are a different story.
I will say that the V-10 in the LF-A was based on one of the most underrated, most powerful and reliable engines in F1. That engine was rumored to the most powerful sump in the field, including the BMW units.
