Hyundai: We're more American than Detroit
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- By next year about 80% of the vehicles Korean automaker Hyundai sells in the United States will be built here, the CEO of the automaker's U.S. arm told CNNMoney.

That percentage would likely put Hyundai at the top of the "Made in the USA" rankings among all automakers operating in the U.S., including Ford, Chrysler and General Motors.

Nice spin but now back to reality

"If GM only built about 66% of the vehicles it sold in the U.S. domestically in 2009 that would mean that GM would have more than tripled the 400,000 cars Hyundai expects to build in the U.S. next year"

You also have to ask your self are you an American company when the profits come from the American economy and goes over seas into the Korean economy? America is already hurting if more people thought of that things clearly would be different.

Last I checked, Hyundai is a publicly traded company, so the profits go back to the shareholders, wherever they may be. If we all chose to go out and buy Hyundai stock, the profit would be going to us.

stock holders a small percentage... o to 60 check your facts GM has made a profit every quarter this year and has up production of certain vehicles while Toyota has had an early clearance sale.

That is corporate spin to gain more inroads to the prospective buyers that won't consider a "foreign" car. And that is not even a nice try. Fail!

If anyone actually reads the article, and not just the title, Hyundai never say "we are more American than Detroit", nor do they ever imply or state it in any other way. They just state that 80% of the cars sold in the US will be US made. It is CNNMoney that makes the comparison that GM, Ford, and Chrysler's numbers are smaller.

Please read over the article before posting dumb comments... The only thing CNNMoney quotes from Hyundai USA CEO is ["By next year about 80% of the vehicles Korean automaker Hyundai sells in the United States will be built here," the CEO of the automaker's U.S. arm told CNNMoney.]

Funny the cars don't look "Amercian". Maybe the content of parts then.Obviously it is cheaper for Hyundai to make the vehicles her then ship them over from Korea.I certainly do not think of them as an "American" car.

Built by American workers using American supplied parts, Although it is a Korean company I feel the car itself is American because of that.

Americans at GM, Ford, and Chevrolet are paid minimum wage.

Americans at Hyundai Alabama are paid $20 an hour.

Americans see none of the profit from "Buy American" brands like Ford and Chevy. Instead, all those profits go to those guys on wall street that these same Americans seem to hate and think are crooks. The big 3 CEOs get some of the fattest paychecks and bonuses in the industry thanks to the "buy american, line wall street's pockets" campaign.
