2011 Dodge Challenger coming with a new 305 hp Pentastar V6 engine
Chrysler announced today that the 2011 Dodge Challenger will receive its brand new V6 Pentastare engine. According to the manufacturer, the 2011 Challenger will be equipped with a higher horse power version of the 3.6-liter V6 Pentastar capable to deliver 305 hp at 6350 rpm (with 55 more hp than the current 3.5-liter V6) and a maximum torque of 268 lb.ft. at 4800 rpm.

“From day one, our objective with the new Pentastar V-6 engine always was to develop an engine that was capable of producing more than 300 horsepower,” according to Lee. “What we’ve done is adapt proven technologies to this new V-6 engine to bring even more power to Challenger for 2011”.

Hey look at this, the Challenger v6 is now putting out camaro/mustang v6 power levels. Why did it take so long?

What do u mean "took so long"? Isnt it right on time?

No, right on time would have been when they launched the Challenger. The 300+hp v6 Mustang and Camaro have been dominating this market.

Excuse me but there was a little issue of a "BK" in Chrysler's most recent past and an operating takeover of a company called Fiat. You might also recalled that this might have created a slight product delay as in all "new" products. This might explain why the "pentastar" engine is just now coming out in all of Chrysler midsize and fullsize cars. Also remember that Ford only came out with it's 3.7 V6 for the 2011 model yr 7 months ago. GM has had the 305(oh yes now their calling it 312HP)Camaro out since early 2010.Hope this explains a few things here.Even so the 305 HP Challenger is still going to slightly slower in it's 0-60 time then the other two. Still it's a significant improvement. Dodge just needs to offer a handling package for the base Challenger and a more aggressive exhaust note.

The 2009 Challenger SE at 250 hp was close to the 2009 Mustangs GT V8 offering (282 HP). With the Damlier (500 SEL) Platform, better brakes and independent rear suspension, I had a hard time finding any Mustangs who wanted to play with me on the Interstate or the back roads of NJ, PA and NY. The Camaro with the 305 has only been around since the spring of 10. The new Mustang with the 305 is barely in the showrooms. I love my 09 inferno pearl Challenger SE (and so do all the people who comment on it every day) But the Camaros and Mustangs look great to me too. Wish I could own all 3. The big plus on the Challenger is with the rear seat folded I can pack my tools and a ladder in it and rocket to my jobs. For the 4 seconds any of the V8s will give me in a 1/4 mile its not worth it. 90% of the people eyeballing any of these cars have no idea whats under the hood anyhow. Plus when you get to 270 HP plus in a V6 your matching the torque of the old school V8s. With the 305 HP Pentastar engine coming, I'll have my order in the first day Dodge starts taking them. To you Mustang and Camaro or Challenger drivers, SS, GT, or RT its 110 plus, that separates the men from the boys and I don't meet too many men these days.(unfortunately) That V8 don't mean dick if you don't use it.

By the way .. the new 305 Challenger SE is going to get dual exhaust to sound better too.

AND The Dodge has always offered an RT suspension, wheel and tire (18 in) package for the SE, one more reason I skipped the Hemi.
