Honda Civic gets its Mojo back after losing its way?

After decades of building a reputation as an affordable compact car with pep and styling, the Honda Civic went astray five years ago, Pafumi said. The design became conservative. The Civic Si sport version fell short on performance.

"There was an uproar," said Pafumi, a 35-year-old Duke University graduate whose first car was a used Civic. "A lot of the enthusiasts were really screaming: 'What the heck are you doing? We love your products, but you've let us down.' "

Too bad the GTI and the Mini beat it in the last performance review in Road and Track. And the GTI beat it overall.

Great first shot too bad it missed the mark ever so slightly. Those germans are soo tricky.

I saw one on the street yesterday. Summed up in one word.... RICE!!!!..... OMG they butcher it with all of the crap they add on to it. Very ill proportioned. I would have been laughed at in it. How embrassing.

My only problem is that my wife can't (or won't) drive stick shift. I wish Honda would make an automatic version available or at least provide paddle shifters for the manual.

Honda is a company that "gets it." Yes, they did screw up with the 2001-2005 Civic models, but they were smart enough to quickly realize it and take corrective action with the 2006 replacement models. Kudos! You just don't see that kind of responsiveness from American car companies. How long before we get a new Focus SVT?
