2010 LA Auto Show Design Challenge: 1,000-pound car concepts revealed
Design studios that are participating in the 7th annual Los Angeles Auto Show Design Challenge have the daunting task of envisioning a “1,000 lb (454 kg) four-passenger vehicle that is both comfortable and safe, while delivering satisfactory driving performance without sacrificing the styling consumers demand." But the various concepts that the designers have come up with are nothing short of spectacular. In think in the context of auto shows, the word "concept" has taken on the meaning "here's what our high-priced designers dreamt up, but our engineers will never be able to realize, and we could never successfully market this thing, given issues of consumer liability, road-worthiness criteria, profitability, etc. But hey, ain't it way cool?"

These conceptual activities are good for these high priced designers. It gives them full room to be creative and look for the companies next brand style. Look at the mazda furai for example. None of the current mazda's look anything like it. But many of the models have taken subtle styling cues from it.
