Report: 2012 Ford Ranger will spawn SUV variant
As you may know already, Ford introduced the all-new 2012 Ranger at this year’s Australian Motor Show in Sydney, but what you didn’t know is that the manufacturer plans to expend the platform used by the vehicle, from pickup-only at launch to an SUV variant. The new SUV is expected in late 2012 at the earliest, and according to our sources.

For those who don’t know, the new Ford Ranger was developed in collaboration with Mazda (the Mazda BT50 is actually a redesigned Ford Ranger), which means that the Japanese manufacturer could also consider a new SUV based on the BT50.

That's not news. Ford/Mazda have been making SUV versions of the Ranger and the B-Series for years. The current version of this SUV is called the Ford Everest.
