$400K SHOWDOWN: Lexus LFA Vs. Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano HGTE

$400K SHOWDOWN: Lexus LFA Vs. Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano HGTE
In a battle of the titans, two $400,000 monsters came together to have a fight across the pond. Sure it wasn't the best conditions one could ask for but the show must go on!

Honestly, putting these two cars in Wales is like putting garbage bags on two supermodels, it's sort of a waste.

But let's say you had $400,000 lying around and you were one of the individuals given the chance to order a Ferrari 599 or a Lexus LFA, which is it going to be?

Watch the video below and weigh in on the comments...

In 1971, one of the greatest one-on-one boxing matches took place in New York's Madison Square Garden: the bout between Mohammed Ali and Joe Frazier. So big was this event, advertisers dubbed it, 'The Fight of the Century'. Now, two different contenders take to the ring (uh...tarmac). The reigning champion: the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano HGTE. The challenger: the Lexus LFA...

Thats an easy choice. The Ferrari! If the LFA cant survive a small head on collision with a 3 series sedan and the driver of the LFA dies wearing full racing gear, a helmet and a special seat, why would i drive the overpriced toyota?
Im sure the LFA is a "nice" drive, but its no ferrari.

Are you serious man... You're going to treat an elderly and highly respected test driver like that?! I know for sure he didn't die in vein, and I will remind you that a full racing gear would but too much stress on his body.

Another thing I don't understand is that people complain about Lexus vehicles being too uninvolved in the driving experience, so they used an automated manual to give that powerful, thrusting feel... now, it's like they get stabbed in the back.

I agree with Joe-Limon though. These reviews don't make sense. I don't want to say that the people are biased because that immediately throws away my vulnerable credibility.

I've seen both the LFA and 599 in person, and although they were not together for comparison, I can tell you that for certain the LFA has a lot more presence. And the sound... oh my the sound in the LFA was breathtaking! The original 599 GTB has a nice, loud growl, but in the HGTE, I expect something more distinctive.

The LFA is no Ferrari because it's better in many ways, or is it because we're comparing apples and oranges? Who am I to say all this... I'm only a "Lexus fanboy" -___-

I think it's funny that when compared to the 599 the lexus is a hardcore sports car. Yet when compared to the f458 the lexus is a luxury gt cruiser.

I guess it all the depends on the circumstances of the comparison,

BTW Joe_Limon, i was reading this article you submitted: http://www.autospies.com/news/The-Effect-of-Weight-Distribution-on-Turning-Moments-50856/ and found it very useful for a research I´m doing on this topic, and i was wondering if you could help me with some sources and other stuff, if you help me in anyway please e-mail me here: ozwal.rh@gmail.com

Around 1:00 you can tell LFA is very willing to rotate, while 599 HGTE has quite a bit of udnersteer dialed in.

Maybe they should badge something this HARDCORE as 'SEXUS'? I'm gonna suggest that to Infiniti for its GT-R version.

At the end, of the day I think it comes down to feeling and what car you'd actually buy (if you had the means) - even if the Lexus put up similar or better performance numbers. This is where the Ferrari wins hands down.

Most people spending this kind of dough won't give the LFA much thought. I don't know what Lexus was trying to accomplish with the LFA. It's not a serious contender for anything.

Those who are more inclined towards pure driving dynamics will still 'go European'. Those who prefer reliability and Asian-style refinement will still lean towards Lexus, Infiniti, Acura and Hyundai.

I generally agreed with your statements seeing as how Ferrari has decades of history backing it up, but to say that the Lexus isnt a serious contender was out of line. A car company has to start somewhere, and for its first supercar, Lexus exceeded everyone's expectations

Just think... Isn't the first Ferrari something to marvel at? The LFA is that "first Ferrari".

I thought they already did comparison between this two car in Germany and the Lexus LF-A won. I would be happy with either car. The Lexus LF-A is just "Stunning" next to the Ferrari 599. The 599 look soft next to the Lexus LF-A. Who would take this Lexus over a Ferrari? I would and I know many who would as well.

It all about taste and personal preference. I think Lexus did a Superb job with the Lexus LF-A because it is their first true Super sportscar.

Hopefully they put many of the Lexus LF-A engineering and technology into the next Lexus IS-F and the GS-F (if they decide to make a Lexus GS-F).

Autocar magazine have done this comparison test when they first got their pre prodcution LFA for testing and they concluded that LFA would be 'OUR CHOICE'.

one is beautiful. the other is ugly. that alone is why anyone in the market for a $400k car would buy the ferrari. asuuming they have any sense of style or taste.

If I have to choose between the Ferrari 599 and the Lexus LF-A, I would go with the LF-A in a heart beat. As much as I Love the Lexus LF-A, if I have $400,000 to blow on cars, I would get the Audi R8 5.2 V10, a Lexus IS-F, BMW M3 and an Aston Martin V8 Vantage. I probably have to spend an extrad ($30k to get the 4 cars.)

I love sportscar, so I would rather have 4 different cars to drive and enjoy instead of just one, but that is just me. I am going to get "Deboost" by the Lexus fanboys for sure, but who cares, it my dream NOT their. I have to do what make me Happy = )

The Ferrari 599 HGTE was set up by Michael Shumacher. That is good enough for me. Foreign Cars Italia has an 2009 599 HGTE in Azzuro Blue Metallic over Dark Blue Leather, that is a very nice car. Toyota is to be commended for the effort, but it really is an ugly car. I'll take a Pinnafarina design anyday. And the 599 GTO is a wow car and a great way for the 599 to go out!

The Lexus over that Ferrari, for me. Can't believe I just said that.

I'm sorry, but, the Ferrari next to the LFA looks waaaay cheaper! I'm no Lexus fan boy but, it's the truth!

it's still a clunky, awkward design whatever it may do performance wise. far too many odd angles, vents all over the place and very strange looking rear end. and based on the opinions i've heard from those who actually own multiple exotic performance cars, that's how they feel. it's just plain ugly.

I love both these cars, but I have always wanted the Ferrari so my heart trumps my brain on this one.

for $60k more I'd opt for 599 GTO nuff said

Don't get me I'm not knocking the LFA but if you can afford something like that, how much of a problem is an extra $60k going to be. The 599 is notorious for understeering, even with HGTE. Got a little better but Chris tested the GTO and noted the problem with the standard 599 was that it didn't have a chassis suitable for the V12, but the 599 GTO does. Plus I think the GTO's one of the most beautiful cars you could possibly own and it wears the GTO legacy. It will become a classic.

If you could afford one of these, you could afford both. Buy the Lexus for when the Ferrari is in the shop. That would be quite often........
