FT86 UPDATE

Sitting in a manufacturer meeting the other day I heard some interesting information about the 2012 FT86 and its later debuting Subaru badged sibling. The FT86 would in fact be a 2.5L boxer as already speculated and it would be a Scion, however the interesting news was the fact that this 2.5L engine would debut a Subaru first...Direct Injection! It will be normally aspirated, at least in Toyota trim. Apparently this was made possible as Toyota investment allowed FHI the funding to develop this technology for the boxer application. Also noted was the transmission choice, a Toyota sourced 6 speed manual that would be shared with Subaru. This means an AWD variant may not be in the cards for either brand, and certainly not at launch.

A Subaru without AWD? Blasphemy I say!

I don't see why the couldn't still put in an awd transfer case :-/ it's not like a "rwd" transmission can only be rwd.

If there's no AWD, then I doubt it will be sold in the US. No AWD goes against Subaru's marketing campaign for the last decade or so.

Instead of wasting time waiting for Toyota to decide what and when and how much this FT86 is going to be, all who are interested ought to go get a Genesis coupe.
