WHICH and WHY? 550 HP American Muscle, What's It Gonna Be?
There's something about big ol' American-made 550 horsepower -- plus six for the 2011 Cadillac CTS-V -- that gets a gearhead's blood boiling. Sure they have their pitfalls but so does every car. For example, would I trust a German electrical system after its warranty is up? I wouldn't bet on it.
Having had the chance to pilot both the 2011 Cadillac CTS-V Coupe and 2011 Shelby GT500, I must say I've got a taste of some spicy 'Merican engineerin'. And I like it!
But let's get down to brass tacks, we have a 556 horsepower CTS-V in one corner -- known for taking care of business on the Green Hell -- and the 550 horsepower GT500 -- a living legend -- in the other.
Now although they both aren't EXACTLY in the same class, keep in mind they both are American 500 + horsepower coupes. Yes, one's more luxurious but you don't make a decision on a car with this much emotion built into it based on rationale.
These cars speak to one thing and one thing only: your heart.
So, what's it going to be and why?

Based on looks, Id go CTS-v. Based on luxury/amenities, CTS-v.
Based on which I'd drive with its windows down to enjoy the sound, I'd go for the Ford all day long.

I'm an unashamed GM fan. So I gravitate to the Caddy naturally. But based on what tattedtwice said, since I hardly ever drive with my windows down, I'd go for the CTS-V!

There's a reason the only picture of the inside of the mustang is the shifter knob: because that is the only thing they have changed compared to the $25k version of the car. The Caddy on the other hand has probably the single, best-executed interior from any domestic manufacturer. It's a no-brainer. The Ford will be falling apart in about 5 years.

I would definitely take the CTS-V over the Mustang. I'm a big fan of its presence.

As an owner of a 2010 Shelby I'm not impartial but dang the stang is a hoot to drive. Makes me feel like I'm seventeen again and the sound alone is worth the price of admission. I can count on one hand the number of times I've driven the car and NOT had some one compliment me on its looks. A Mustang is approachable, an icon and aspirational to everyone. I'm already saving for my next one.

CTS-V for me!
Cadillac has done an excellent job making it's luxury stand out in both looks and performance not to mention the price is set very competitive against the long standing brands in this class and the CTS-V just blows the door off of many of them.
This comparo is way to easy but good and better than any flame bait article any day. Lets get back to talking about cars again instead of trashing brands.

Would love to own and drive a CTS-V, but not with a gas/ethanol HCCI engine. No idea why anyone would purchase a car with a E10/E15 engine at this point. Still waiting for the advanced diesel engine version in the US.
24B gallons/year of biodiesel @$38 barrel equivalent eliminates all OPEC nation purchases. We will make it happen. etcgreen.com

The Shelby for me. Just looks alone is enough for me, but its also the best handling Mustang ever with an intoxicating exhaust note.

I would go with the Cadillac CTS-V sedan, I think its styling is better than the coupe. The Mustang still has some difficulty putting its power down. In both cases you do get lots of performance for the money.

CTS-V if it's my everyday driver; Shelby if I need a toy.

The Caddy looks like an Acura reject. Or vice-versa.
I'd take the Mustang without a moments hesitation.

Neither if I had a choice, but Caddy if I absolutely had to choose one.
With no IRS(Independent Rear Suspension) Mustang is eliminated!
I like the Caddy's power, but hate the styling.
