VIDEO REVIEW: Corvette Z06-The fastest piece of crap on earth?



No matter how hard I try to buy a Corvette I always end up with a Porsche in the end.

I'm currently in the market for a sports car and it's between the Corvette Z06 and the Porsche 997S.

I want to buy a Vette but when you get past the raw speed potential, there's not much else there.

The interior sucks.
The exterior design is good but not great.
The Z06 is great on the track but sucks around town.
The sound system blows.
The navigation system blows.
Loaded with options and dealer markup its the same price as a Porsche 997S.
Three days after you buy it you want to get rid of it.
How can the key on a $75K car be as crappy as on a $12k cobalt.
The leather and carpet quality is no better than on a Malibu.
Have you been to a Chevrolet dealer lately? Hard to imagine wanting to deal with that when something goes wrong.

Aside from that, it's a great car ;)

That said, 001 is on his way to the Porsche dealer to pick up a 997S.

Enjoy Jeremy Clarkson's take on the Z06...

You'll love it when he says he'd rather get the bird flu than have a Z06 for his daily driver!

One step at a time Bro. GM can't build a perfect car immediately. Gotta save a little somethin; somethin for later generations...lol. Not sure why GM insists on maintaining their current interiors, h3ll I am willing to spend an extra $1-$2K on a nice interior. The exterior I think is sweet and the performance is next to none (well anything south of $200K).

I would not call it a fast piece of crap!!! And I don't see GM matching Porches interior anytime soon, but if I want a race car I don't need an extravegant interior, but to each his/her own. Your article is mostly just an opinion and everyone has a right to one.

Not a fan of the z06, but I'd rather take the Viper if thats all I had to decide between.
But here is what I dont get, why do you need 8.3litres in a V10 and only come to 500hp???? If BMW or Merc were to produce such a engine with the same displacement and cylinders they would all come out with something close to 1000hp. Muscle cars are nice to bragg about but it all comes down to everyday driving. And as everyone can see the NEW-AGE muscle cars aren't capable of doing that at ALL!!! The interior will scare the crapp out of you and I wonder what kind of warranty GM and Dodge offer on those sucide machines?? I would not want to be paying the repair bills on those 7-8 liter machines later down the road, even if I had the money to do so.

I don't really have time to write a full post, but a few points can't stay uncorrected.
- The standard STS has a very sweet power tilt/telescope wheel, so I'm sure the STS-V does too.
- Umm Mercedes is going back to N/A engines... and what did they come up with.. a 6.3L engine!!
- The truth is that the Corvette really DOES work in North America. That's the whole idea ppl! The rest of the world faints at the sound of a 7L engine, but so what... The fuel economy is downright good! BTW, that's how I would measure the efficiency of an engine, not hp/L.
- Displacement is there for the purpose of torque kids. I think the z06's engine makes the peak torque of the M5's V10 at something like 3000 rpm.
- Besides, this whole discussion is useless. There's a saying in a certain language that goes something like this: "You can't shit in people's tastes."

I also considered a Corvette, but ultimately ordered the 911s. I have been driving BMW's for years, and the quality and handling and overal asthetic feel is not something that is easily duplicated. Porsche feels like a step up, Corvette feels like a step down. I am amazed at the differences on cars, my wife just got a A6 4.2, trading in her old 330i, and what a difference. Don't get me wrong, the Audi is good, but the BMW is so much better put together.

My 911s is on the boat, should be in any day now and of course I am chomping at the bit. I have the best of both worlds, a '06 330i daily driver, and a '06 911s for fun.

On the TG track, never mind that the vette laps faster than other cars. The cars that its lap time is comparable to is the 360CS and the 911 GT3RS, the latter of which Clarkson himself said the ride is so harsh that he'd rather be dragged on his face behind it. And these are really track cars with no trim and no radios (never mind sat nav). So in the end, you have to consider which one of Clarkson's exaggerations is preferable: being dragged on your face? or bird flu? Quite frankly I think the only things to take away from this review are the excellent lap time and the ability to start the car in 5th, the rest is Clarkson nonsense (sat nav on fast food? come on..)(ps. he finds that jag beautiful.. ewww!)

I really do believe that "Americanness" to an automobile is not an insulting term, and that the people criticizing these cars either don't have better things to do or are somehow jealous in that they need to go around bashing for the purpose of self-gratifying their choice to pay excessively more for a certain badge on the hood.

So who said the Z06 is a luxury touring sedan? Who else makes a 7.0L 500+ power plant that has 20+ MPG? The German autos have way better interior, but the Vette is not a friggin luxury car. I have driven the Z06 and it IS FUN AS ALL HELL!!! But I would never recommend it on very long drivers or to people that prefer luxury over handling and I don't need to throw in extra weight for a better sounding system. I was never impressed with Porche interiors until very recently and Porche of course has more prestige than any GM product.

GM has peaked out on Overhead Valve technology and needs to move on. I believe this is a final hoorah for the old school small big blocks. I would recommend any of you to drive a Z06 before posting anything on this subject.

If we really love cars, price doesn't matter? How about I tell the bank that I really love cars so I shouldn't have to make that giant payment. Are they going to say "OK"? Hell no. Of course, price matters! What an ignorant thing to say. I love cars, but I can only afford to drive a used BMW. I'm certainly not in the 911 or Z06 range. Is the Z06 perfect? No, but it's still a great performance bargain.

The Z06 is amazing for the price. I don't care for Corvettes, I'm sure it's fun to drive but I just think they are for rednecks and old men. I would like to take one for a spin to see what it can do, and I think the performance in amazing given the price. There are only a couple road going cars today that will touch it, and I bet against a 911 it's a drivers race.

Numbers don't matter unless the car can DO something? I'm sorry, but this car positively DOES do more than something. It runs, in full trim, with a barebones 911 GT3RS that is as hardcore a porsche gets.

Further, you guys are also kindof funny... "...it's a piece of crap for rednecks..." "..but I'd like to give her a spin see what this talk is all about.." Isn't that kind of hypocritical?
