VIDEO: Why Is THIS BMW M5 Commercial Banned?
You know, getting a commercial banned on television doesn't take much, apparently. Although, BMW managed to do this with an advertisement for the E39 M5 from way back in the day.
After viewing it a couple of times, 00R has an idea but wants to know what YOU think. 00R will put his answer up later...
What is it about this BMW M5 commercial that got it banned from TV?
**Make sure to take a look at the commercial down below...

because it promotes speeding? Or... maybe it got banned because the high speed car is rather phallic looking? I'd say 90% chance on my first guess, 10% chance on the second. ;)

Oh my god this is so old! Are you really that stretched for news? I saw this ad like 2 years ago.

Actually there was plenty of news today to cover but it's a great advertisement that we wanted to discuss.
I could sit here and post up about the all new Dodge Avenger, but that's not cool in any respect.
This is OUR show, remember that.

What do you mean OUR show. Your show means nothing if you don't have any users, so I would respect them and in turn earn respect.
As far as the ad is concerned, it is a great ad. As far as fastest saloon on earth that is debatable.

@Agent00R
It is your show but thats unprofessional that you have to remind your users who have gotten you where you are that its your show. NOT COOL AT ALL...you could have worded that a little better and its not the first time that comment was posted from a AS agent.
and SYNX is right....the ad is old news i seen this about 2-3 years ago myself it was the baddest/fastest car on the planet AT THAT TIME....lets not forget that. but the E39 M5 was a bad MOTHER-PHUCKER it was a true manual that performed just as expected. this M5 is by far a classic in the BMW archives

"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt"....Mark Twain.
Seriously 00R. You can make a better argument than "This is OUR show, remember that." This is the second or third time you've reminded us all of this. And it's becoming a bit redundant. It's YOUR show, so be the professional.

To be honest, I don't think any of the agents have to be professional. This isn't a professional type of site anyway, and that doesn't have to be a bad thing either. The problem is that we have a bunch of constant complainers on here and they deserve that kind of comment. If you tink you're that good, why don't you just open up your own site with your own always fresh news? This commercial is old, but it provided some additional info since I never knew it was banned, and I'm sure there are a few others out there who didn't know either. If nothing else, it's a topic to talk about, which is what this site is all about anyways.

It was the fastest production saloon on the planet at the time of this ad. Remember this is the E39 M5, also my favorite with that V8 and legit manual gearbox WOW!

The E39 M5 was a top contender for fastest production saloon when it came out, but it most definitely was not THE fastest. Brabus had the E v12 and Opel had the Lotus Omega years before.

The M5 was the fastest production car off the production line when it came out. The Lotus Opel and Brabus were not factory production cars but specific tuners...I hope you know you should be discussing about AMG here when talking about an M and not Brabus cuz then for a BMW the argument can entail Hamann, Alpina, G-Power etc etc...

Do we know for sure this ad was really banned or did they just decide not to air it?

Awesome spot, but it's misleading. While the E39 M5 has sick speed, it's not going to keep up with a rocket powered car on the salt flats.

Is it because of the Rolls Royce stickers on the jet engine car?

the ad stretches the truth a bit. Some idiot my buy the car thinking it's truly fast enough to keep up with a jet car and try to sue in disappointment.

Great ad, Why was it banned? It doesn't advocate speeding, it is clearly a controlled test track, nothing irresponsible about that, PC zealots!

Fake video...obviously...and BMW makes no mention of it in any disclaimer. There obviously was something recording the high speed vehicle but that camera was lower than the one they show on the BMW.
Evidence: If you look at the "driver" when getting out of the "BMW" he has to practically kneel and bend over to look into the camera with his left knee down and his right knee almost as high as his shoulder when he bends over. But when they pan out he is not bending over as much and his knees are level and the camera appears to be facing his upper chest. So obviously two different camera's.
Plus when the "driver" is looking in the camera there is a bunch of dust from the rocket car. But when they pan out the dust suddenly dissappears. BMW makes no disclaimer of the fakeness of this ad and probably banned it so people do not try it at home.
