Lotus Says It Is ONLY Working On The Esprit, GOOD/BAD Call?

Lotus Says It Is ONLY Working On The Esprit, GOOD/BAD Call?
If you did not see the 2010 Paris Motor Show, Lotus went all gangbusters. They had not one, two, three or four new debuts. Five.

One of the five was the revival of the iconic Esprit nameplate. Allegedly powered by a Lexus 5.0-liter V8, the Lotus is expected to churn out 550 horsepower to 620 horsepower, use a seven-speed gearbox and utilize a KERS system.

Clearly, this Lotus concept ain't foolin' around.

Where things get intriguing is where Lotus says this is the only car the firm is currently developing. Is this a good or bad move for the Lotus brand? Should they be focusing on one of the other five cars that made their debut in Paris?

Let us know in the comments below...

The all-new Lotus Esprit is the only one of Lotus’s range of sports cars and supercars to have serious engineering work undertaken on it.

Lotus insiders have told Autocar that the firm is focusing “fully” on the new Esprit at this stage, which is set to be the first of the new Lotuses launched in 2013...

This is pure win! :D if they are only going to develop one of the five it's a good thing they are doing my favorite! :D

Hey, Joe, we got our behinds deboosted off of us on our previous post! I would also say that the Esprit is a classic icon for me as well. That being said, I would also opted for this model if I had to choose anyone of them, but I rather have them all.

eh, don't think much of it. It appears as though I have my own deboosting club following me. I think it's cute that some people actually follow me around trying to deboost every post I make.

They should provide a series of lightweight mid engine cars mirror/rivaling those of Porsche. A supercar is great by definition, but do us or LOTUS really need it? I for one love to see a British alternative of Cayman.

Lotus is a small company - but they developed the Evora platform to be flexible. They need the halo car out first and then use the tech to trickle down to the other cars at a more affordable price (at least for the company). I don't see a problem with this. I would hate them to lose direction and not focus 100% on the Esprit.

No established companies start w/ a supercar first. It's too much a wishful bet.
