Lawsuit Says Toyota Forced Consumers And Mechanics To Stay Quiet About Safety Dangers
New court filings accuse Toyota of secretly repurchasing vehicles whose owners reported unintended acceleration and forcing owners to sign confidentiality agreements promising not to discuss their complaints.
In addition, attorneys representing thousands of Toyota owners charged that the automaker’s technicians were able to replicate the sudden acceleration and failed to notify the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of the problem.

They were trying to save their ass.Any one of us here would have done the same thing. Is it wrong, yes.Did that stop them,no. Its just business.Take the risk and hide it from the world while still having top sales or let everyone know and fall to the bottom of the charts which is what happened.

Further confirmation that Toyota is not and will not be truthful.
And yet, so many people "trust" them that floor mats and/or driver error are the sole cause of runaway acceleration.
This is like continuing to trust your spouse that he/she isn't cheating while you're watching the sex tape.

Why should a confidentiality agreement have to exist in the first place? If Toyota was aware of the problem, then they should be obligated to repurchase the defective product. However, the consumer should in no way be obligated to remain silent because of it. The consumer got their money back, and the manufacturer got their product back.
When I purchase construction equipment, if it's a piece of crap, I tell the seller it's a piece of crap. Give me my money back. And we undo the transaction. But, we're not making each other sign confidentiality agreements over the whole mess.
