2013 Mercedes-Benz S-Class will feature a landmark change in interior design
There is a new direction for the interior design of future Mercedes-Benz models. This will be shown first in the next-generation Mercedes S-Class that the carmaker claims will feature a “landmark” change in interior design. Within three years, the next S-Class is slated to start selling.

Mercedes designers are targeting it to be the standard-bearer for the new interior design concepts that will be influenced by several features found in the F800 Style concept. One such feature is a new control system that would make the rotary knob of the current COMAND operation unnecessary.

Without haptic feedback, this seems to potentially have a high learning curve and will definitely influence driving safety.

One thing I like is how the Prius has a display high up on the dash that will show an image of the steering wheel controls when a person touches them. When the person moves his finger from one button to another, the display will highlight the button he is now touching. I think Lexus has this with their heads-up display... not sure.

Anyways, yeah... we'll see if this works.

Lexus is currently using that touch system on the HUD system HS.

I had a prius as a rental and also liked this display. It was easy to use and high up making it easier to glance at while still keeping an eye on the road. I feel the safest and easiest way would be to use a HUD.

My 07 335i has magnetic/haptic feedback. Unsure why my friends 2010 335i doesn't have the same feature. His has the standard click resistance.

That feature, while unnecessary now since I know the menu's front-back, greatly helped the learning curve.
