Aston Martin Music: GOOD or POISON For The Brand

Aston Martin Music: GOOD or POISON For The Brand
There are some brands that just have a certain cachet to them. Take, for example, Aston Martin. The brand was known for essentially taking the luxury of a Bentley and the exoticness of a Ferrari and putting them together in one really great looking package.

Keeping that in mind, it has been one of the kings of cool. How often do you see an Aston Martin and say "Wow, that car is so lame!" You don't.

But with the release of a new music video for the rapper Rick Ross titled "Aston Martin Music," we want to know if this tarnishes the brands coolness.

All I can say is that it's very important for kids to know Aston Martin. That will keep the brand and its value alive!

Music is good, rapper is not. And I hate mixer intentionally move the beat behind... tt just doesn't add any flava.

Why this even a discussion?? oh I see who came up with it. If your that much of an elitist that Aston Martin being mentioned in a "rap" song tarnishes the brand than you I would assume something like an Aston Martin to you isnt good enough anyway, and for that matter the sheer fact that this even a topic of discussion proves how small minded the poster is. In a day and age where youth are less concerned with big engined ultra luxury cars, if they aren't aspirational vehicles decades down the road than how well will these brands do...

Im sure those that would look down on this would never see this video. They will never know who rick ross and drake is. Aston may see a few more because of this.

Let me summarize AGENT00R's point here.
What he's saying is black people driving around in Aston Martins tarnishes the brand. He's just asking people in a nicer way but that's what he means.

For the most part it does.

How dare AGENT00R question whether Rick Ross is an appropriate ambassador for the brand. Just look at these lyrics from "Aston Martin Music":

Automatic weapons on the floor but who can you call
My down bitch, one who live by the code
I love a nasty girl who swallow is on the menu
Pull up on the block in a drop-top chicken box
Mr. KFC DBS is in the watch
Addicted like Pookie that pussy be controllin me

"KFC", "automatic weapons", "bitches", nasty girls who swallow" and "drop-top chicken boxes" just scream sophistication and class. Btw, that's sarcasm for all of the intellectually lazy commenters above who find it easier to accuse AGENT00R of racism rather than think critically and see how Aston Martin brand values and target market demographics/psychographics might not be best represented by the messaging of Rick Ross.

What would you rather?

Golf clubs on the floor, who can you call
My sophisticated lady, one who lives by Vogue
I love a classy girl and caviar on the menu
Drive up to the country club in my drop top Aston

??? Seriously...this guy Rick Ross (I don't know who he is, I'm not sure he's hit the UK yet)... he is Aston's target market, whether you like it or not. He is someone with money. That is their target. Aston spent years in trouble due to its class bias, and now that it has (like other British car makers) finally got its head out of its own arse it is making a profit!!
Maybe you don't like the idea of people who weren't born into money owning nice cars, maybe you don't like the idea of people without 'class' having money, but that is your own personal bias, and it is also one Agent00R is showing.

"Rupert", you're speaking out of your ass. Where did I ever express dislike for people who weren't born into money owning nice cars? In fact, that would describe me. Get your facts straight before you make accusations. For those like "Rupert" here, who have a "personal bias" against facts and critical thought, I'll restate my argument. I don't believe Aston Martin's brand values are in line with those of Rick Ross as expressed in the lyrics of his song. If you believe "KFC", calling women "bitches", etc. is the message Aston Martin wants to convey then make that argument. Don't resort to baseless insults and lazy charges of racism.

Even though I'm not a fan, Rick Ross can make a song about anything he wishes. That's called freedom of speech, or does it only apply to people you agree with? The fact that Ross can easily afford or already owns an Aston makes him more qualified to speak on the car than the armchair enthusiasts or the reviewers who've probably spent a few hours or less in the car.

Rick Ross IS Aston's target demographic because he's rich and can afford to buy their product. I'll bet they value his opinion more than they do any of our beloved agents on Autospies.

Would this topic have been posted if Linkin Park made a song called Aston Martin Music? I think not........

"Even though I'm not a fan, Rick Ross can make a song about anything he wishes. That's called freedom of speech, or does it only apply to people you agree with?"

"Stone", no one here is arguing that Rick Ross doesn't have a right to make any song he wishes. Invoking the 1st amendment here is a straw man argument. The question is whether or not this song is positive for the brand or not. Again, where's the critical thinking?

Secondly, I sincerely doubt Rick Ross is Aston Martin's target market. Cross-reference Rick Ross' fan-base demographics with that of Aston Martin and I doubt you'll see much in common. It has nothing to do with politically correct, feel-good pablum and everything to do with sound marketing principles.

Rick Ross, the rich rapper IS Aston Martin's target demographic, the key word being rich. Aston could care less if he made his money rappin', playing sports, selling drugs or weaving baskets. A unit sold is a unit sold. Rick Ross also has other entertainers, professional athletes, etc as part of his fan base and Aston Martin wants their money too.

Is Aston Martin music good for the brand? Absolutely, Advertising is not cheap and any that you don't have to pay for is a plus. I sold premium cars for a number of years and I never heard a single customer say they didn't want an S-Class or a 7-series because rappers rap about them.

Ask the makers of Cristal Champagne what happened to their bottom line when they started to care about the "class" of people who advertised their product. Jay-Z now worth about 500 million dollars sent their sales up with his raps and then sent them spiraling, you may google the apology they sent to see if they want those rap dollars.

As a note: Forbes estimated Jay-Z's net worth at $150 million last year. I have noticed that the very same rumor has been running around lately- the rapper changes, but the number doesn't.

doesn't change the fact that Cristal got burned for their snobbery which was the point, there are no morals in retail. Now I had read that Jigga's net worth was around 500 mil, I'm sure between himself and his wife he's pretty close.

The number doesn't matter, it's still infinitely more than you'll ever see....LMAO!!!

"Stone", you clearly have no idea what a "target market" is. I've actually developed multi-million dollar marketing/advertising campaigns for multiple luxury automotive brands over the last several years. While you hustle to sell the occasional used luxury sedan off the car lot, one at a time, I sell hundreds of thousands of units with global multi-media marketing campaigns. Trust me, Rick Ross is not their target market, nor do they care to be associated with lyrics referencing "bitches" and "KFC". Which isn't to say Aston Martin won't take his money if he wants to buy a car. A distinction must be made between "target market" and "buyer". Saddam Hussein bought cars from Rolls Royce, Ferrari and Porsche. Clearly, maniacal dictators are not their target market.

"The number doesn't matter, it's still infinitely more than you'll ever see....LMAO!!!"
Yes, me and 99.999 percent of the world. What are you, 14?

Stone,

You are a bit defensive. The odds are that you have items in your house that were made by a company that until the end of the last decade was wholly owned by relatives of mine. You shouldn't make such assumtpoins as the one you have above. Not only have I seen people with more money than Jay-Z: I am related to them.

Good or Poison for autospies: Everytime they mention something not fully pertaining to their site and try and make it auto news, they fail.

Also FYI: Although I see where you are going, this song is old. This song has been underground since the beginning of this year and it actually became popular during the summer. Sorry if its new(s) to you. If you want to hire me or need other "somewhat" car related music news, I will work for free...

Wow... I thought business was all about profit. At least that's what Im in it for. To all you marketing geeks, you couldn't sell rice in China!! Talk about giving the Aston brand world wide exposure. When was the last time you saw an Aston Martin commercial on TV. Infact, the only time you see an Aston is either in a performance car magazine or in the Robb Report. The video does the brand justice and captures the natural beauty of the car whether its moving or parked.

I wrapped my wife's DBS around a tree while eating fries from McDonalds. She told me that she wanted the blue 4dr she saw in the Rick Ross video. She loves her new Rapide(all black everything)!!
