Would You Pay $30K Of Your Hard Earned Money For A Kia?

Would You Pay $30K Of Your Hard Earned Money For A Kia?
Kia has graduated from upstart to established commodity in the American auto market, but are consumers ready to pay close to $30,000 for one of its vehicles?

At this late date, nobody should be surprised when Kia lands in a popular segment like compact crossovers that is dominated by towering competitors like Toyota and Honda -- and immediately delivers a credible competitor.

So the merits of the 2011 Sportage when stacked up against the Toyota (TM) RAV-4 and Honda (HMC) CR-V shouldn't be exaggerated by the prejudice of low expectations. The Kia is stylish, sporty, well equipped, and fun to drive. On those points, it arguably surpasses its older competitors.

Not for their current product offerings

Why not, it seems they make good cars!

You could say the same for Chevy, Ford and Chrysler. They all dump large quantities of vehicles in fleet sales(usually means rental cars).

That's more than a comparably equipped Subaru Forester - which, IMHO, is a hell of a lot better than any of the other cute-utes (e.g. Rav4, CRV, Sportage et al). ..

If it can beat the Forester/RAV4 head to head at the same price point, why not?

that comment makes no sense you do realize they are the same company, and alot of their cars use the same engines, chassis, and other major components right? Not to mention this isn't Kia's first time making car that was almost $30,000, and for that matter if will people pay $40,000 for a golf with a big grill and a slightly different interior, or well over $30,000 for anything that Dodge makes a brand that proves time and time again how reliable they are and how poor their resales values are, why not give Kia a chance. That new Optima looks really nice, as does the sportage, and forte coupe.

I would have to give them about two more product cycles, but not today.

If you do not care about the name of the manufacturer stamped/glued onto the car, then you go with a vehicle that that gives you what you want for a price that seems reasonable. For a lot of people, KIA's are that car, even at $30,000+.

Anyone actually driving and experiencing the new Sportage against the Rav4 or CR-V would have a different view about relative value. The Japanese products are starting to look and feel very dated, with perceived quality now behind that of the Korean offerings. This new Sporatge, and the equivalent Hyundai ix35/Tucson are both excellent - and surprisingly the Kia actually has the higher quality interior (as measured by perceived quality due to use of soft touch materials etc). Ford's Kuga (in Europe) and VW Tiguan are about the only small SUV's this side of the pond that really compare. Of the Japanese options, only Nissan's Qashqai stacks up without seeming dated now.

Yes! But I am with UAW, time will tell. If they can offer consistent QUALITY and RELIABILITY, they will be around. But fool me once....
