WHICH and WHY? Sexy Four-Door Coupes Go Head-To-Head

WHICH and WHY? Sexy Four-Door Coupes Go Head-To-Head
When it comes to expensive sedans, there are your Plain Jane cars that are staples within the spectrum -- the Audi A8, BMW 7-Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class -- and then there are these guys. The sex kittens.

They're not the most practical or the most spacious, but that's not the point. These cars speak to your emotions and captivate anyone who experiences them with their luxurious interiors and good looks. It's like that attractive someone you know. Sure, he/she isn't the sharpest tool in the shed but my God what a looker.

So, if you were given the choice of an Aston Martin Rapide, Audi A7, Jaguar XJ or the updated Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class, WHICH would it be and WHY?

WTF is up with posting articles we can't read (aka non-english)?? Stop tormenting us...

This is easy, just use Google's translator. Here's the translation for the Rapide:

"... The car takes corners as if it were the best times on the Nordschleife. And in the end he dismisses the driver with the grin of a newly minted hero in the face."

See? Now it all makes sense!

And here's how Google translates their description of the sunroof on the XJ,

"... and the glass roof to emphasize that impression. Traditionalists should let the XJ on you. Then he comes, the Saul-Paul-effect ... "

To be making the face of the one dividing is a happy time in the orchard :)

@Holydude

As you can see with kuvakas, the translator doesn't work so hot.

That's why we wrote our own question:

WHICH and WHY...

The CLS displays a new and classy Mercedes-Benz design. The styling of the CLS suits its body shape more than the others; the Audi has the usual Audi design just thrown on it. I'm not criticising any of the above designs, in fact they're all great. But the CLS has a new design that looks like a Mercedes but is still different enough to distant it from the E-Class, S-Class etc, whereas the A5 sportback looks like an A5 which looks like an A8 which looks like an A4 (and so on). I'd actually argue that the Panamera belongs more in place here than the Jag but that's just my opinion.

The XJ make the others look like boxes.

No panamera...

Rapide looks the best to me out of that group.

The Rapide is the best looking, followed by the A7. The CLS just looks overwrought. The XJ looks disjointed.

1) Rapide, but it doesn't really compete with anything in the above comparison so I'm not sure why it's there. Crazy expensive, crazy beautiful.
2) 6-Series Gran Coupe, which isn't out and wasn't a choice but looks better than everything actually in the comparison except the Rapide, and it actually competes with the A7 and CLS.
3) Panamera, also not in the comparison, which is odd considering it's the most direct competitor to the Rapide, which was in the comparison. Outperforms everything even remotely similar.
4) XJ, not a "four door coupe" and it competes with the S-class, 7-Series, and A8 so not sure why it was in the comparison in the first place, but I'm a big fan of the vehicle.
5) CLS, old one looked better, new one looks boxy by comparison. Interior is very nice though and new engines should be killer.
6) A7, looks like every other Audi, and Audi's own A5 is a better looking "four door coupe". I'd get it over the A8 though.

You're placing a car which you have never seen in real life in second place?

I just love it when people do this.

The Rapide is a slick looking vehicle. Definitely the looker out of the entire group. I wish Lamborghini Estoque had been a part of this comparison.

MorePowerMorePower - 11/2/2010 8:55:41 PM

Agreed! The Estoque would be the best looking of this bunch. They should have included the Panamera in this group. I'm sure the Panamera was excluded from the test because it would have probably out-handled every other car in the group.

I find the Rapide hideous looking. A 4-door Aston Martin has never looked good to my eyes. Not the Rapide and certainly not the Lagonda.

Panamera needs to replace XJ.......FACT
6 Series is a true coupe, with 2 doors......FACT

LACMANLACMAN - 11/3/2010 8:21:14 AM

Rapide, XJ, or Panamera (which wasnt a choice) would be one of the three I would pick. Why? They are the best looking, IMO. Although its styled like one, I dont think the XJ should be considered a "four-door coupe". Then again, none of them except the Aston truly looks like a coupe with four doors...

hands down the rapide. it's STUNNING in person and sounds wonderful too. but a bit of a ridiculous comparison since it costs more than twice as much as the others.

and then i'd take the panamera (why is it not on the list?) before any of the others.

third, i'd take a quattroporte (why isn't it here?)
