2010 SEMA SHOW EXCLUSIVE PHOTOS: Hyundai Makes 00R Sit Up And Take Notice
As the Spies have brought up countless times, Hyundai is one brand that continues to impress us on a consistent basis. With new offerings like the 2011 Hyundai Sonata and all-new Equus, you have to hand it to the firm, they have really stepped up to the plate and knocked it out of the park.

Although something tells 00R that the brand still has a little hump to overcome when it comes to brand perception.

But from what he can see, thanks to 001's photos of the SEMA Auto Show, Hyundai is going to turn that around very quick. Because if the brand can make me a believer, then I cannot see why they can't make others turn around and take notice.

Take, for example, the 2011 Sonata. I have never thought it was an impressive-looking vehicle. But my God, when you get a look at the white SEMA show car...

When you are done absorbing the coolness of the Sonata then glance over at the several different Equus show cars. Although some aspects of each Equus are "over the top," you have to step back and realize that these details are just showing what is capable from the Equus. I doubt anyone would put ostrich leather and alcantara together. And if they do, God bless them!

At the end of the day, however, we want to know: is Hyundai making you sit up and take notice?

I hate to disagree but the I think the Sonata was tastefully done for the car it is. I mean sema is about over the top cars what did you expect a sonata with just leather seats and a leather head liner. I think the Sonata is done well and the contrast with the black and white makes it look stunning. Obviously if you dont take what this has to offer then you probably wont like the SEMA show period. all your gonna see is late model cars with $10,000+ in mods done to them. and dont forget that the SEMA show is the reason why you have all these toys on your regular car anyway...remember the first flip screen radio in the mid 90's..where did that come from?, TV's in the head rest and wherever else there is space where did that come from?, some luxury cars have a DAMN computer in it where did that come from?

So sema is the reason why the automotive toy industry is what it is today. I can say the EQUUS's may be a little over done but so what this is SEMA get over it.....its a culture

B7fan - these dudes are just idiots that don't know the half on cars and aren't real enthusiasts.

I just don't get it! The LS and S-class seem to have less leather than the Equus, but the Equus interior is just bleh no matter what.

Other than that, the Sonata's exterior is pretty nice!

Nothing says class or SEMA quite like an Ostrich interior.

Personally, I would have tried to lessen the size of the Sonata grille, but that's me. I never understood the philosophy behind investing more money in upgrades for your new car than you actually paid for your new car.

It is official that the Matte Paint finish is here for a little while.

no disrespect 00R and autospies - i've been a visitor here for a long time - but this post really comes across as propaganda for hyundai. can anybody with any taste really say they are impressed with these hyundais from SEMA? i'm being serious.

i have nothing against hyundai at all, and that white sonata does have "something" going for it (i like the debadging on the grille), but let's be frank - no car enthusiast would be caught dead in any of these. i'm waiting for Xhibit to jump out and shout "we just pimp'd your hun-day like sunday, fool!"

From where Hyundai has been to where it is at now, the brand has made some unbelievable and unthinkable progress. To pretend that didn't happen further proves my point about brand perception.

Whether the cars above are cool or not is entirely a subjective matter. While I feel that the Equus's above are "over the top" someone may dig it. That's why the tuning industry is successful, people can pick and choose to do whatever they like with their own auto.

The point I was making with the Equui(plural?) is that even if all the mods come off in a bad way, look at individual aspects, like the diamond patterned alcantara with a contrasting stitch -- it just shows what is capable and that tuning shops are ready to do as owners please with their Equus.

And yes, that white Sonata does "have 'something'" going for it.

Additionally "enthusiast" is a relative term.

Someone who buys a 2011 Hyundai Sonata, strips it and puts on a new suspension, brake kit and specs it for racing can be considered an enthusiast. As is someone who puts in a 20,000 watt sound system.

Bottom line: we all love cars in some form or fashion. That's what matters.

so i guess your blinded by SEMA because this is what SEMA is about all cars that are over done.....I dont know if you follow SEMA or the car industry like I DO but what the hell is the difference between these hyundais which are over done compared to 3-4 years ago with the silver 1st generation BMW X5 that had the nonsense remote doors, a $15k or $20k stereo system, ridiculous 24 inch wheels i think it was ALPINES display if i can remember. KEEP THIS IN MIND FOR SEMA...... "ITS EITHER GO HARD OR GO HOME"

Lol

Even though those ostrich skins could have made a nice pair of shoes (stained black)a nice wallet or even a belt, if Ferragamo got a hold of it.

Can't wait for Joe Limon to weigh in on this!!! Joe? Joe? Are you there, buddy?

"Is it me or does the Equus look way too similar to the Lexus LS??"

Which Lexus LS the 2004 that has headlights from the 2004 Infinti Q sedan, Ford 500, Suzuki Verna and 2006.5 Optima or the current Lexus LS?
