Kudos Audi. It appears that America may be discovering what Europe has known for a loooooong time: Diesel, good! :-)

You are incorrect. First, BMW didn't "just launch" free maintenance, they've been doing it for a decade at least. You know who DID just launch a free maintenance program? VW. And Cadillac. And guess what else? Benz used to offer free maintenance, they dropped it a few years ago because it was too expensive to include it. Now they offer "maintenance packages" at a huge discount versus the actual cost (and most dealers throw in the package as part of the purchase of the car). Audi also offers free maintenance. Jag does too.

There's not really any reasonable argument you can make that getting maintenance included is a negative. If one car has it and a similarly priced car doesn't, it's a positive, period.

I have had 10 Audi's and VW's in my life and only had to replace a hinge on the trunk of my current one. Warranty covered the cost and the repair was $30 bucks. Sounds like they need to work on things right? looser

CigarGuy, the only difference between the 3/36 plan and the 4/50 plan is the duration of the coverage. So BMW has been running free maintenance since late 2000 at the latest. It's now late 2010. 2010 minus 2000 is 10. That's a decade, sport.

I had a 2002 330Ci with the 3/36. Everything was covered, including wipers, bulbs, and rotors. In fact, it was a stick, and even the clutch was covered. So again, you're wrong. Respectfully. And it's still been a decade.

It's only because diesel use to be bad, stinky & loud!

well then perhaps you had more than 36k miles on the car when you had them replaced, or perhaps it was deemed that you abused the car so the claim was denied, or perhaps the dealer just didn't like you -- I have no idea, and I'm not going to speculate. What I can tell you with 100% certainty is that I got my brakes covered, for free, under that very same program, from a dealer I didn't even buy the car from. I repeat -- a dealer I didn't buy the car from.

You can nitpick if you want, the fact is free service is still free, and they've still been offering it for a decade. I'm at a loss as to why you keep arguing the dates. They started including it in late 2000. That's ten years ago, commonly known as a "decade". They've been offering free service/maintenance/whatever you want to call it for a decade, period.

how is that "achieving the impossible" exactly? The BMW 320d Efficient Dynamics is rated at 68.9mpg (57.37mpg US) with 103g of CO2, both of which better the A4.

Because it's a stupid autospies article, don't be so sensative and naive. Who cares what they both claim, get them here in the US stat.
