Now that gas prices are crazy are SUV buyers sorry they made their purchase?

When you buy an SUV, you pretty much know what you are in for. Not the type of consumer looking for a tiny commuter car, but needs a vehicle large enough for the family as well as plenty of space for utility. Glad to see GM making efforts to boost SUV MPG.

You get maybe 300 miles at best.

It is pathetic that an SUV gets bad gas mileage especially when you know there are some good ways to pump up the mileage. But at least GM seems to be trying more than others. Plus some people need a big SUV or truck. There is no way I could haul and pull the things I do with a compact truck.
You say that the Escalade gets 10 MPG. That’s not true. You are thinking about a Ford Excursion. I know a couple of people with year 2000 & 2001 Escalades and they get 12 MPG on a bad day and pulling stuff. That would give you about 360 miles.
On the new Escalades they are getting an average of 16.8 MPG that gives you over 500 miles on 30 gallons. Thennn, if you kept it on the highway I bet you could get 18 MPG easy and that of coarse gives you well over 500 miles on 30 gallons. I think that is a big improvement. Yes they can do better but at least now there trying. By the way the new Tahoe/Escalade gets better MPG than the Nissan Pathfinder and others like.

I say define SUV. A lot of the "SUV's" out there are crossovers which are practically cars, but look like an SUV. If 51% of people say it only takes them $40-$60 to fill their tank, at around $3.00/gallon of gas in the U.S. that means they only have a 13 - 20 gallon gas tank. And the type of vehicles that have these small tanks are more crossovers. So I say this poll is invalid. I think of an SUV as the Explorers, Tahoe's, Yukon's with the 20+ gallon fuel tanks. Ask the people who own just these vehicles and then get a more accurate result.

I have a friend with a brand new 2007 Escalade.

He pays $100.00 like I said. Premium Fuel of course.

The SUV has 400hp and goes 0-60mph in 6.9 seconds.

And the mileage is 10mpg at best for people who use that performance.

Don't mind the 100.00 fill up. But for the gas money and price of the vehicle, I don't expect such a pathetic 0 to 60 time. I wonder how many more gm vehicles are going to get the tired 400hp (basically) vette engine.? God, do I hate GM

First of the explorer i think u get more bang for the buck. The interior i think is better for me. And it gets better mpg then the escalade. It gets 15 mpg. Escalade get 13. Not much diff from last years model. atleast the explorer improved.

People that can afford the 40 plus thousand $ SUVs, can probably aford the gas money.

The fact that 35% would not buy the same vehicle to me is a big deal and suggests that cars will market share at the expense of light trucks. I wouldn't want to have a series of aging Trucks to push into the market [are you listening Ford?]

Also 35% is a little higher than Prez Bush's current approval. He'd be happy to be at mid rather than low thirties!

a lot of people do not fill up a whole tank, they fill up when the tank is a quarter full. That makes the $60 gas purchase equivalent of a 25 gallon tank, that is a large SUV/truck gas tank

I own Turbocharged cars like M5 and Subarus,and i knew it before buying them, that i have to fed them a lot.
But yeah in return they give u the power the feel.

All lot of you are right. An Excalde with 400hp. Yes that would suck the gas. if any body is not willing to put down a junk of change at the pump than dont get the big SUV. A missing point here i think. I Believe. Is that a newer SUV no matter what brand, puts out a lot less emmisions than 10 years ago no matter what the milage. True?
