Mercedes-Benz Not Resorting To "Stupid" Measures To Be Number One In US
Even as Mercedes-Benz aims to beat Lexus and come out on top of the sales race in the luxury brand segment, it won’t be doing anything “stupid” to achieve this.
Dietmar Exler, vice president of Mercedes-Benz Financial USA, said that there will be some programs but there won’t be any drastic measures such as adding sales incentives. Toyota Motor Corp.'s Lexus brand has been the No. 1 selling luxury brand in the US since 2000. However, the gap between Lexus and rivals Mercedes and BMW has narrowed as Toyota had to cope with the recall crisis.

Of course Lexus has less incentives than <Mercedes because their cars are much cheaper to begin with

Mercedes pricing is due to prestige pricing. They have the prestige, the history, the heritage etc. They can charge those prices and people are willing to pay.
Try that on a Toyota, excuse me, a Lexus.

yes, and their average MSRP is 30-40% higher than lexus. they'd have to give $30,000 discounts on the S-class to bring it in line with the LS.

That's right they have been offering incentives for years to try to beat Lexus. Sounds like their just giving up and trying to save face.....

C classes are not used as taxis. B classes, E classes, A6 and 5 series are.

Why should they have to resort to stupid tactics; people have been laying down big bucks for years for their ugly ass, underwhelming cars. Clearly that isnt going to change, so no need to start giving them away to get ahead of toyota.

How about they don't do anything "stupid" like their other German bretherend and offer dozens of different models to appeal to each and every single demographic. Yes I just called out BMW.

Who is still interested in US sales numbers? The US system is about to die and its markets, too...

Even without drastic increases Mercedes already has sales incentives two times higher than Lexus:
"Lexus more than doubled average incentive spending in October to $2,152 a vehicle from $923 a year earlier, according to TrueCar.com, an auto pricing website[...] The Daimler unit boosted average incentive spending 9.4 percent in October to $4,389, according to TrueCar."
