Is BMW Reconsidering Large SUV, You Heard It HERE First!
According to the word on the street, BMW was considering doing a more serious sport-utility vehicle dubbed the X7. Recently though, it has been reported that BMW may be considering its decision to axe plans for a new large sport-utility vehicle.

Well, if you don't recall, not too long ago AutoSpies' Agent001 had a scoop for you all regarding the next-generation X5. 001 told us that it would be getting bigger and possibly undergo a new name, duh, the X7.

Not meaning to toot our horns or anything but BEEP effin' BEEP!

Wall Street Journal published yesterday an article on the upcoming world’s largest economic summit in Seoul this Thursday with the main topic revolving around “global rebalancing.” The idea is to change the world economy so that it relies less on American consumers and more on shoppers in China, Germany and other countries with big trade surpluses.

Hidden within the lengthy, yet informative article, is a piece of news that we find it quite intriguing...

The company is also counting on the U.S. to rebound more quickly than doom-and-gloomers think, making rebalancing less necessary than the leaders gathered in Seoul believe. It is even reconsidering its decision to cancel a new large SUV, which was meant mainly for U.S. buyers....

Duh. We have learned nothing the past 3 years. Global warming, Lehman Brothers, Housing market collapse, and worse of all, rising fuel prices. Its frustrating.

NO MONEY! NO CAR. I guess BMW is making the X7 targeting China and other emerging markets as its main market.

yes, why buy a prius? The very best scientists in the world are given billions of dollars every year in research funds and still no one can explain why the south pole is expanding, or why global temperatures aren't rising. The best they can come up with is linking correlations that they have no proof whether they are linked or not. For an example, I could say that the increase of deer population in Canada over the years has lead to the increase of carbon dioxide levels around the world, therefore we should go hunting in Canada to save the world. Of course I'm being sarcastic and exaggerating it, but it is to prove a point at how loose the global warming argument is.

No more SAVs SUVs or anything like that!!! Please make hybrids across the entire range the priority and then look to electric or hydrogen vehicles. Who in their right mind would buy an X7 over a Range Rover? I guess they would be competing in the same category.

a range rover is about as dependable as an 1986 ford taurus the worst plan was that ford bought range rover from BMW....

It's the NEW BMW! Of course they are considering an X7. They have no filler model for the large family SUV to compete with the Mercedes GL or Escalade. They could go another step and add an ESV version for even more capacity, but I would rather put my money on an X7 followed by a BMW truck based on the X7 platform. Just one more demographic for them to squeeze into and further dillute their brand image.

The X7 has been rumored to be "considered" for the last 10 years, only believe it when you see it.

The only large SUV I would consider owning would be the Lexus LX. As for the viability of an X7 model, it would probably outsell all the other large SUVs worldwide (including the Range Rover)

BMW: If the combined sales of the X1, X3, X5 and X6 can't beat the RX, adding an X7 oughta do it!

The FWD Toyota Camry on stilts is a joke SUV. Same Camry V6 engine and transmission. This and Camry ES350 keep Lexus going.

So what's your point?

You could combine all the sales of every lexus product for a month and still not beat Ford F-150 sales. So should Lexus introduce a Full-size truck? Tundra sales do not not count as RX sales do not count against BMW in this category.

BMW is not targeting RX/Highlander/RAV4 buyers. They would love to take their money, but Lexus is not a concern for BMW or any of the other German luxury makers right now. Until Lexus sells globally like they do in the United States or considerably up their game,

X7 might happen and most likely X7 will be little more than a X5L. I mean it would use same platform and engines as X5 but only large body and different styling.
If that would be the case it won't be able to compete with great offraoders like LX570, Infiniti QX56/Nissan Patrol and Range Rover. I hope BMW make their fist good offroader and with X7 they have a good chance.

Would anyone want to drive fast on winding or twisty roads with 7 people on board? The reason for x7 is its longger so a third row will be accommodated. Why?
