Should They REALLY Build A Maserati Using the Jeep Cherokee?

Should They REALLY Build A Maserati Using the Jeep Cherokee?
Chrysler Group LLC's all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee is so popular that it may spawn Detroit-built versions for the automaker's Italian partner, Fiat SpA.

Sergio Marchionne, CEO of both companies, said Monday that the Jefferson North Assembly Plant would be the only factory to build versions of the SUV for as many as four brands: Chrysler, Dodge, Alfa Romeo and Maserati.

Oh Hell to the F*ing YES!!!

This isn't the first time Italians have had fun with America's favorite off-road brand. When Chrysler bought Lamborghini in the 80's/90's, they sent a few Grand Cherokee's to Italy and the engineers were getting impressive power figures.

FYI it wasnt a rebadge....and in fact had both Maserati and Chrysler badges but hey ignorrance is bliss. The article is pretty ironic the Grand Cherokee itself being based on the next generation Mercedes ML yet the avid VW group fan actually asks is it ok to base a luxury brands SUV on a Mercedes Based platform for a car that runs over $40,000.....given the cars your fans of is their really even a point of asking....

Why do you people constantly run around telling lies ?

The new Grand Cherokee is based on the Current ML Platform and not the New {NOT YET AVAILABLE} Platform.

You can say that about almost all of the auto manufacturer collaborations. To be fair, Maserati was having major issues before the TC was born.

*sighs*

I95, you and everyone else that keep saying this are incorrect. The platform that is under the NEW Grand Cherokee was CO-DEVELOPED with DamilerChrysler when they were together. This is the same platform coming in the form of the new ML. Mercedes put Jeep in charge of the engineering portion of the platform (because of their prowess in off road ablility) but they didnt give them sole responsibility as far as the designing the new platform. The platform underneath the Jeep is NOT the current Benz ML platform. Also, the platform is stretched for the Durango and GL applications. Thank you.

*flips hair and curtseys*

Porsche has been building SUV's out of VW Touareg chassis for years, so I say why not !

Hmmm, isn't the Grand Cherokee based off the current ML, ergo "Should They REALLY Build A Maserati Using the Mecedes Benz ML?".

The answer is no, can't some performance car companies just be performance car companies.

They can if they put the Jeep on a diet and add alumnium doors, hood tailgate lid and put in a torquier motor...the Hemi has 360hp and 390 pounds of torque While the most powerful Maserati motor generates 490 newton meters which converts into 361.4 foot pounds of torque and 433hp. They need more power captain! I dought they would let the 6.4 Litter Hemi motor fly in the European market because it is only a "pushrod and not "sophisticated" enough for formula 1 little skinny euro snobs.
