Volkswagen working on new sporty hybrids
Volkswagen will launch an innovative new sporty hybrid system in the sixth-generation Jetta that will go beyond what’s expected of current mainstream hybrids as it offers increased performance and economy. Jetta technical project manager Michael Hinz said in an interview with Autocar, that it didn’t want to do what experienced hybrid makers like Toyota or Honda were doing.

He added that VW aimed for “something unique.” Hinz said that hybrid systems can be used to enhance power or raise efficiency. He indicated that to boost power, a turbocharged petrol engine is preferred. But for economy, he pointed to a diesel-electric system route.
