Wild Ass Rumor Of The Day: Should Volkswagen Buy Ferrari?

Wild Ass Rumor Of The Day: Should Volkswagen Buy Ferrari?
Is Volkswagen Chairman Ferdinand Piech eyeing Ferrari as the next acquisition to add to VW group's collection of brands? Some in the German press think so.

Piech has already said openly that he would like VW to buy Fiat's Alfa Romeo marque -- but the "real object of his desire," is Ferrari, Manager Magazin says in its current issue.

VW already has plenty of sporty brands. It is merging Porsche into its portfolio and owns Lamborghini, the Italian super car maker. In 1998, VW bought the rights to the Bugatti marque, supposedly after Piech's son was thrilled at seeing a vintage miniature Bugatti in a toy shop.

Ferrari is a full bread italian race car for the streets....thats all we need is AWD ferraris with a variant of the 4.2/8 cylinder or the 5.2/10 cylinder or a W12.....nah keep ferraris Italian....everyone knows ENZO wouldnt go for this...Ferraris are my favorite exotic sports car....we dont need another italian company gone german again. now im not saying that VW didnt work wonders for LAMBO because they definitley needed lambo as much as lambo needed VW.

Well if they did, it would give credence to the F1 rumor as well.

It won't happen! VAG already has too many luxury marques under its brand. BMW would be in a better position to buy Ferrari than any other car manufacturer besides maybe Toyota or Honda.

Baseless (B.S) speculation!! Wow!

Did Piech say that he's interested in Ferrari? No. He said Alfa.

Just because Piech says openly that he would like VW to buy Fiat's Alfa Romeo marque, doesn’t mean that VW is about to buy Ferrari. "Manager Magazine" said that Ferrari is Piech's object of desire. Piech didn't say that.

I'm sorry but a "wild thought" from a Magazine shouldn't justify this rumor. Especially when what was said by the VW CEO was about a different brand. I guess "Manager Magazine" must be running short on content. Non-Story

No........! Because they already have Lambo and it like buying the same car and probably engine but with different body and name brand. I think BMW, MB, Nissan or Toyota should buy it ; )

Ford almost bought Ferrari for 10 millions back in 1963, Enzo pulled the plug at the last minute and sold half the shares to FIAT instead. What big difference would this have made ? Both Fiat and Ford are mainstream constructors and both had their lots of financial difficulties over the years. Fiat or Ford ownership, whats the big difference.

With the current economy, chances are that if Ferrari is really for sale, it is most likely a chinese, indian, malaysian or emerati consortium that will take ownership of the maranello based operation.

First Alfa Romeo..now Ferrari. This is just VW being egotistical and arrogant. Like a guy who has one too many drinks and thinks he can shag
everyone else's wife. In the end this will be VW's downfall...as it was for Toyota and GM before. You get to the top and think you can do no wrong...think again !
