It's that kind of arrogant, "we have no competition" thinking that has gotten Mercedes into the quality mess they're in right now. People with money and good taste generally prefer well-built, reliable cars...

90% on this site, people talk on irrelevnt issues and pull each others leg by degrading or beashing others favourite.

Just look at this whole argument till my Comment, none has written anything relevent to the Audi Q5,or atleast on Audi alone.

gert no one is asking u how much u like MB or how superior it is.We all know about it's past(previous 5-6 years). It was full of technical,mechanical,quality....etc issues.

Even in one year(late nighties, i think so)according to JD Power MB had more than 300 problems per 100 cars.

"Next time you're walking down the street, stop and ask someone
to name a luxury car. Nine times out of ten they'll name Mercedes.
This is why people buy Mercedes - not because of quality, but because
of what it is - a Mercedes"

I would be agree if,we were still living in the late 80s to early 90s.But now the people are educated enough (about cars)
They may will take the MB's name once or twice but after that it's all BMW,Lexus,Infiniti,Audi.

U ask the same question but of Sports cars/exotics.
In past 10-20 years u would have only got the answer FERRARI OR MCLAREN

But now it's Bugatti,Lamborghini,Koeningsegg,Porsche...etc

In the last 20-50 years we all love american cars,And GM and Ford were ruling almost every category of cars.
But now look at them.

Time don't wait for any one.U have to move with a steady speed.Success after success, otherwise others will surpass u.

I am sorry if u r thinking MB is still the same MB which it was 10-20 years ago.U can't hide the reality.

And the reality is maybe from this generation(latest)onwards MB will improve in all issues, but still it will not be the same what it was 1-2 decades before.

And offcourse the gap between all the superemos to other Brands are becoming narrower.
Japan and Koreans are catching everybody at a very high speed.

Japan already surpassed American products and now heading towards the big Germans.

Germans have to move faster.

At last good luck to all brands and i am really excited about the new Q5.Hope it will be very near to the Steffenwolf Concept.

Mercedes on the way down...

Merc is definitely on the way down. They're lagging in engine sophistication and certainly in overall quality. They are still coasting on their decade's gone glory, especially in the US, where less savvy car consumers still get Merc for the brand, and not for the integrity of the car.

With Merc being the only German luxury maker to actually LOSE money (a horrible notion considering the luxury car business is traditionally the most profitable automotive manufacturing segment), they are slowly and painfully dropping in prestige. Will they recover? I doubt it.

On to more interesting things now, such as Audi's quickly expanding model line. It's a very exciting time for someone like me who gets a new luxury car every couple of years. So far, Audi's been the one.

Good times.

My first comment is to gert123456. I hate to bust your bubble and that of those who agree with you but you are grossly mistaken. MB has lost the volume race solely on the SUV side of the market. I know this because I used to work for MB but left because I could no longer in good faith use the line "I've never seen that problem before" In training meetings with MB they openly admitted they lost ground with the SUV business. Before the re-design of the ML they sold 66,000 ML's in 2004 compared to BMW's 90,000 X5' & X3's and too LEXUS whom I dislike's whopping 140,000 RX, GX & LX's. They have gained some market share with the new ML but with the quality issues (yes they still have them) still playing a role the gained amrket will ne quickly lost. Even if the cars didn't break the fit and finish and quality of materials are far from up to par. Audi on the other hand has had industry leading fit and finish as well as some of the highest praised interiors in the business. And secondly euro, you are so off the mark it's not even funny. I'll bet you did not know that Audi sells more A8L W12's in the US than MB sells S600's and BMW 760's combined? Stockli is absolutely right and you my friend euro are lost. The average buyer for the Q7 will make at least $175,000.00 per year which denotes they can afford the MB's and BMW's Audi competes with. It's obvious that Stockli is well veresed in doing the research as you appear not to be. And just a few more feathers in your hats for you MB lovers, I went to the Canary Islands and saw a very large number if MB's as Taxis in February, my Boss went to Spain this past week and found almost none and when he asked around they taxi drivers said there were too many quality issues so they stopped buying the MB's. And last but not least, Audi out sells BMW in the european market. BMW only succeeds where the badge means more than the car. Here in the good ole US of A!
