A little tidbit I picked up from my father-in-law, who works for Cal-Trans and talks to CHP all the time...these guys like to see you slow down when you see them. I always thought it was "don't look guilty" and try to gently slow. But according to him, they like to see alert speeders who are respectful rather than people who ignore them.

Sounds reasonable. It could go either way - guilty or attentive.
Kinda sounds like it was just a good conversation topic :P
Remember: cops sometimes ticket us when they're in a bad mood

Everyone appreciates a little respect, even cops and highway patrol officers. Unless they're in that EOM quota ticketing spree, T-bone's right, cops will usually be cool and let you go.

Just talk nice to the cops (show respect). As long as you are not going 25mph+ over the speed limit they are usually cool.
